Looking for YVR Crash Pad

Looking for a crash pad both short term and long term. Short term - in the month of May - looking for something for the entire month (less is fine too). Long term- looking for a crash pad 2-3 times a month, 2-3 days at a time. Been doing this for the past year and looking to continue. No expectation...

Re: Predicament / Annual

You'll need to find someone with IA approval. I would think that there are quite a few in the area. Oh. The IA's in the US can't do annuals on Canadian registered planes, only in-between maintenance. So only AMEs can perform annuals on Canadian planes. That's the predicament I'm in ... I need to fi...

Re: Predicament / Annual

Yes, this is a private aircraft. You're correct any US A&Ps can work on a Canadian aircraft - but only for maintenance work *between* annuals. To perform an annual inspection, unfortunately it has to be done by an a Canadian AME.

Predicament / Annual

I'm currently in Los Angeles with a Piper Seneca, and need an annual done soon. I have a few things to care of here and would prefer to get the annual done state-side, even if it's in a different state than California. Does anyone know a Canadian AME living in the US, or perhaps a snowbird?

Re: Private aircraft import

I believe the safest way of doing an import is to retain the service of a Transport Canada DMD from the get-go. I know it seems like a conflict of interest, but these individuals do provide private consulting services, and some of them even advertise. Basically if a DMD is satisfied that a US aircra...

AMEs in USA?

I'm finding myself spending an extended amount of time in the US. The annual due date on my Seneca is coming up - rather than flying the plane back up to Canada which would be a logistic nightmare, does anyone know of any TC certified AMEs in the US? I'm in the Los Angeles area, but it would still b...

Re: Did you secure the unused seat area?

On a slightly different note, I never really understood why you see some planes where all unoccupied seats have their seat belts fastened. I always thought it was just neater that way. Until someone pointed out to me that because the seats in my Seneca (and in a lot of other ones) are easily remova...

Re: Flying in USA - 5 takeoffs / landings in 6 months, or 3 in 3 months

Thanks for the responses. It does make sense to adhere to the stricter rules - in this case the US ones. It's a little bit of a PITA though especially with the night currency.

Flying in USA - 5 takeoffs / landings in 6 months, or 3 in 3 months

I do quite a lot of flying in the US, but I don't know the answer to this question. As PIC in a Canadian registered plane, which rule are we bound by for currency to take passengers? If it's 5 in 6 months, and somebody has a mishap, FAA would be involved. Let's say the 5 takeoffs and landings were d...

Wow. This is where we are currently. We'll be taking the same float plane tomorrow from our resort back to Male tomorrow. The boat ride here wasn't much better - 35 minutes of "flying" over the Indian Ocean at 30 kts.

I'm very interested to hear about your experience re mountain checkout at PFC. As you know I'm a current member there. PM me if it's politically charged ... No politics, just an FTU who would really rather not deal with weekend warrior renters. The only time you get the necessary weather minima is ...

Re: rent a 172 in Vancouver to fly to SFO or LAS?

Flying to the U.S. is a minor issue. I read up on it, flew to Bellingham, had coffee at Bellis Fair and flew back. The highlight was realizing it was my first full-stop landing at Abbotsford. Honourable mention to taking off from something that looked like a real airport squawking 1200. Seattle Rad...

Good find, photofly. I'm looking for an oxygen system myself. But does the following comment in the lone review bother you? "... upon inspection, they had significant internal oxidation and required cleaning to oxygen service specifications before use. Most new cylinders don't have this amount of ox...

Re: rent a 172 in Vancouver to fly to SFO or LAS?

I'm actually a member of PFC and I just flew their 172 last week - ie. the same flying club the OP plans on flying with. They do have a US checkout. As for daily minimums - I agree, it varies even within the club itself and depends on a lot of things. I had a look at Pacific Flying Club's website, ...

Re: rent a 172 in Vancouver to fly to SFO or LAS?

I just returned from KLAS last week. And I did a non-stop flight to KSFO on Labour Day 4 months ago. Both in my Seneca. PilotDAR is right - the terrain between here and there is rugged. Going to LAS you will have to cross the Sierra Nevada. To the SFO area, you have the option of hugging the coastl...

Re: rent a 172 in Vancouver to fly to SFO or LAS?

I hear ya, geneticistx. This was my third time landing and taking off at KLAS. It never gets old :D

Every time during departure off runway 01/19 (closet to the strip) heading back out west, Las Vegas Departure had us crossing and flying right over the strip at 1500 feet. That's priceless.

Re: 172 P or R for PPL

I personally prefer the R, simply because it's newer (circa 1997'ish with leather seats in the front), and it's fuel injected which makes it simpler to operate. Without fuel injection (I don't know much about the P but I don't think it's fuel injected), you would have to remember to apply carb heat ...

Re: cessna 152/172 spin excercise

"Believing" something about flying the plane is not good enough if your aim is to be a professional pilot. Page 4-19 of the 152 POH you linked contradicts what you have stated. Would you please read the POH cover to cover, and understand the meaning of the contents, before you fly the plane? Seems ...

Re: Keystone 2015 report

Now, flying, I hardly ever see guys stick around to, at the very least, check the labels on the truck after they order fuel. I'm guilty of this. In fact, very often I would wait until my day of departure to call in my fuel order over the phone. I'm not even at the airport during refuelling. BUT I w...

Re: Life Insurance

I can identify with cgzro. As a pilot who flies for fun / business (but flying is not my profession), I also ran into the exclusion where life insurance would not cover if I was part of the crew. I lived with that for a few years as I wasn't flying a lot then. My policy was with Manulife at the time...
