Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
Bob was indeed a most wonderful man, and a capable, fun, and happy teacher. In his own words, "a roving ambassador of goodwill". Working in a place that remote and having very little in the way of information or resources is not for the faint of heart, but he was very good at it. Those of us who kne...

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down
Poor old -MAS. She was wrecked more than once back when she was red, white, and green and "Captain Bligh's" regular ride, and I remember a Station 60 that lifted her cockpit floor about four inches, but... I'm dating myself. The downside of GPS coming along was before, back in the old days, we would...

Re: Fate is the hunter
The largely unknown but essential second part of Fate is the Hunter is his book “A Hostage to Fortune”. It fills in many of the gaps in the first book.

Re: Doctors in Alberta for an FAA Medical
I was being too specific; when I just searched "Canada" there's only fourteen anyway. Thanks.

Doctors in Alberta for an FAA Medical
Has anybody got a listing or a website for doctors in Alberta who can do FAA medicals? The FAA's website is almost useless.

I've an invitation, if that's what you mean. And it's for heavy money.

Converting a Canadian ATPL to a US Commercial or ATPL
Does anybody here know how to go about converting a Canadian license to a US one? I've had enough of the snow!

Re: Air Tindi
So here's a question for the Avcan hive mind; What were our options at that moment? give me a list. Tell me what you would have done had you found yourself in an aeroplane without IFR gas? I will say we were lucky enough to have enough gas to spend a few minutes thinking about the situation, we wer...

About 122 miles east of YGL. The C-87 got flown out but I wonder if the C-47 got rescued eventually?

Re: Air Tindi
I remember that I briefly opened my window but that was a mistake. If I did it again I'd open the right hand rear door and see if that helped. It probably would have. After we landed I never even turned off the generators, I just pulled the fuel levers, left everything turned on and got out last thr...

Re: Air Tindi
My response is born out of about 7000 hrs of Twin Otter time in essentially the same neighbourhood as this accident. Twin Otter fuel gauges are famously reliable. As a rule they either work perfectly or not at all. I have no idea what happened here, but one night, many moons ago I departed Yellowkni...

Re: 7 Crashes in 7 Days
This reminds me of a story about a guy at our airfield who purchased a homebuilt sight unseen based on it having "a big motor" and on the type of GPS that was installed in it. It reminded me of a sixteen-year old kid who bought a car based on it's stereo - and the fact that "it was built by an engin...

Re: Aircraft Group (AGN) Numbers
If you read Advisory Circular (AC) No. 602-005, in 3.0 Background, you see : "(10) It is recognized that aircraft larger than the published certification level, such as cargo or charter are frequently part of the daily operational mix at an airport. When this occurs, those air operators are advised ...

Re: Aircraft Group (AGN) Numbers
Thanks for this. This is kinda the gist of my question - can you fly a IIIB a/c onto a IIIA runway if the runway length, strength, size, etc meets the performance requirements of the a/c?

Aircraft Group (AGN) Numbers
Since my last question generated some valuable discussion and well considered points (I'm not being facetious - thanks to everyone who responded) I'll throw this one out there as it too has caused some head scratching: I'll use La Ronge, Saskatchewan (CYVC) for this example. Runway 18/36 is assessed...

Re: IFR Take Off Considerations
Somebody (Budd Davisson, maybe) once called single-engine, single-pilot IFR "the World's Most Dangerous Legalized Sport", and I'm inclined to agree. But, as I said, it was just a hypothetical question.

Re: IFR Take Off Considerations
Not enough weather information to make any decision . What is causing the low ceiling ? What about temperature dew point spread ? Ice ? Enroute Weather ? Destination weather ? Weather guessers accurate this week ? Probability of unforecast weather ? Coastal ? Mountain ? Prairie ? Where are the Fron...
