Re: Laser Eye Surgery

I had PRK in 1994 at the age of 19. Had the surgery at focus eye centre in Ottawa. I just turned 44 and still do not require glasses to aviate.

Re: Can a newly minted A319/320/321 AC Captain still be drafted back to an F/o position?

There are no 330 RP positions. All augmented flying (which there is very little of) is done by FO’s. There have been many 330 RPs over the years. Position was only eliminated recently. And yea, people have gone from Captain to RP of various fleets, or Captain to FO, or 777/787 FO to Narrowbody Capt...

No one goes 787fo to 320c
Umm, many do. Some also go 320c to 787fo. Some have even gone EMJc to 330rp, by choice. Not kidding.
There is nothing new under the sun.

I can tell you that is a mainline A330 route as of right now. Not sure when you are traveling, but I can almost guarantee you 100%, that you will not be switched to a Rouge flight if you are going anytime soon.

Re: Starting approach at intermediate fix?

RAC 9.16 Has all the answers. You most certainly can proceed to any intermediate fix (IF) on the final approach course without navigating via a designated IAF. You just have to be cognizant of the required minimum IFR altitude...most likely to be MSA, as you wouldn't be allowed to leave it until you...

Morrisburg Airport CNS8 just west of Cornwall is adjacent to the Upper Canada Golf Course, easily walkable. They include "By Air" as a means to get to the golf course in their "how to get here" page: http://www.uppercanadagolf.com/index.cfm/en/reservation/plan-your-visit/directions/ I second this o...

Of course, if the astronaut is US Navy or Coast Guard...he could have both the title and rank of Commander. Or in this case Captain (N) (Ret'd).

Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada

I believe that we should honour Col Chris Hadfield with the Order of Canada Actually, his rank is Commander, not Colonel. He is active duty with the CSA and retired from the RCAF. Not that I know this for sure...only speculation, but isn't "Commander" a title rather than a rank. As in Commander of ...

He's lobbying for:
A. The government to start following the law as its written, instead of bending it however it suits them.
B. The government to start looking after its own citizens first who are more than capable of doing the job, instead of throwing them under the bus (see A above).

Just got the word back. With the loss of Hydraulic system 1, and the associated loss of multifunction spoiler pairs 3 and 4 the autopilot will automatically disconnect in a turn. For this reason they decided to have you manually disconnect the autopilot and hand-fly.

Re: E175/190 question.

Interesting. I believe that although the YD will automatically turn on when AP is selected on (if the YD was off at the time,) you can select the YD off and the AP will continue to work. If that's the case then it probably wouldn't be the reason you lose the AP with loss of system 1.

I had PRK in 1994. At the time you lost the medical for at least a year. The waiting period is substantially less now. As far as not telling TC...you are potentially providing ammunition for litigation, should you ever have an accident or incident.

Then there's the low vis take off... There are a lot of US corporate Part 91 operators getting pee pee slapped (so I am told). I used to work corporate (604 POC). We had one CDN a/c and a sister fleet in the US part 91. We all did the same Trg, but because we had a POC, we could put the applicable o...
