Re: DHC2 Misfiring
I had this issue a many years ago while flying my first Beaver gig in Northern Saskatchewan. The engine coughed and then caught in about a one second hesitation. Definitely woke me up and when I landed I informed the engineers. They had a quick look at fuel filters, timing etc, couldn't find anythin...

Re: Crazy used aircraft prices
Most people that list their planes for sale don't really want to sell them. They list them because their spouse / partner is giving them a hard time about the costs of owning and operating or they figure the summer flying season is over so hey lets put it up for sale for a crazy price and if someone...

Re: Transwest Air DHC3 Otter crash near Ivanhoe Lk NT 22 8 2
. . . departing the Lodge and going to the base for an inspection is strange considering he went in the wrong direction. Stony Rapids, LaRonge and PA are all south of Scott Lake, not North as the direction he was flying. My thoughts as well. Ivanhoe is in exactly the opposite direction of Stony Rap...

I flew out of Scott Lake several years ago. My sympathies to the pilot's family and everyone at the lodge.

I spoke at length with Yves the day before on aviation related business. He was a friendly gentleman who you could tell truly loved GA. My sincerest condolences go out to his family.

Re: do company pilots/mechanics count is pax under 703?
This is a great thread and thanks to OP for getting it started. It's clear from the multiple posts that it's a topic up for debate and the answer isn't cut and dry. I for one have flown for a couple of companies that never included infants on the manifest and I always felt uncomfortable about this, ...

Re: Private Operating Certificate. When is one needed?
We have looked into this at length and the answer is both No and Yes. At this time under the interim order only jets and 12500 or greater aircraft require a POC. However, it is strongly believed that once the permanent regulations are put into place, which could happen within the next 12 months, sev...

Re: TC sends Collection Agency after me
Nice one ... Dredging this up on the anniversary of our hard fought battle for independence ... Oh right that wasn't us. We were just given the right to form our own colonial government because it wasn't worth it for the British to come hereto collect the taxes anymore. In any case what if told you...

Re: Looking to start and need some help
You need to first research whether this is even a career path you want. Which there plenty of threads about and you will want to read those as there is some very eye opening advice and personal experiences posted in those threads.

Re: Flying Instructor in Yellowknife?
There is a Cherokee 140 C-GQGE based in Yellowknife. It is a 4 person partnership. If you approach the shareholders I'm sure one of the 4 may be willing to sell you a share or some sort of other arrangement could be made. Go to the "Ursus" hangar and talk to Blair Jensen he will know the owners and ...

Re: Signing off ATPL, but need MIFR and some night time
I went through the same exact thing. I did my renewal in the sim and then found out it wouldn't count towards the ATPL. Very silly rule as far as I'm concerned. You're sort of half right about the need to do the ride in a Canadian reg plane. Actually my understanding is you must do the ride with a C...

Re: Langley schools. Langley Flying School or SkyQuest Aviat
I started my aviation career with LFS back in '96 working on my PPL. Out of the 6 schools I have trained, rented, worked at, or ran across this country it would be the only flight school that I would give my endorsement to. I credit LFS with the strong foundation that continues to help me in my car...

Re: Langley Flying School
I was the first flight instructor to work for Dave P. It was him, me and NIC. The total office space was the square area where the main desk is and that's was it. We worked long hard days keeping things going and customers happy. It was genuinely a great relaxed atmosphere and my fondest memories of...

Re: Texas Turbine vs AeroTwin Grand Caravan Garrett conversi
Thanks for the feedback. What normal cruise speed and fuel burn down low and at 10,000'? We are looking at putting a Grand Caravan on Amphibs as soon as Wipaire has the approvals. The EX at 867 hp is nice but it burns way too much fuel and as we know you can't have too much HP so the Garrett 950 is ...

Texas Turbine vs AeroTwin Grand Caravan Garrett conversion
Does anyone know much about the Aerotwin conversion? I see they are offering 950hp vs 900hp of the Texas Turbine. Aerotwins site is basically non-functional.
What other pros and cons between the two conversions?
