Re: never mind

Good thing a lot of us took screen shots of this childish rant. That was a keeper. Like him or not, the cheap shots and blatant disrespect directed at Capt. Adamus was totally uncalled for. In his defense, I do find it a bit funny that pilots -and mainly captains- seem to find it important that the...

Is a CJ4 really a "high-performance" jet?

Not being facetious, but I thought it was a descendant of the Citation I/II?

Don't worry. Winter is coming, and then AvHerald will be "pumping out" the incidents of Canadian carriers departing runways.

Re: AC A320 slides off runway at YYZ

I'm not talking about absolute need but about considering using the tools available to enhance situational awareness appropriate to circumstance. By your logic we shouldn't use flight directors or autopilots on a Cat 1 approach either, or god forbid a HUD... just a crutch, right?! Not a correct ana...

Re: BREEZY in Birmingham.

You mention the key - to orient oneself upwind so that when you de-crab there's allowance for the drift. I see quite a few folks fly nicely crabbed on the extended centreline but then panic a bit when they align with the runway and drift off the centre. In very high crosswinds the view down the edge...

Re: BREEZY in Birmingham.

Landing crabbed is poor technique imho. You'd better call Airbus and Boeing right away then . I'm sure they'd want to know they're teaching poor technique. Can't speak to AB but Boeing does not "teach" landing crabbed. As a crosswind technique it is offered as one alternative, with the Boeing ...

But the border protection is most definitely federal and can bar entry for whatever they want. Draconian, but legal. ....and that is true in every country out there. Um...yes, but not really relevant to a discussion about a specific issue crossing one specific border. Pretty sure there aren't any o...

Immediate family member is a CBSA officer. There are lots of daily examples of different ideas each country has about what is to be enforced more strenously. Canada has always treated US DUI convictions more harshly than the Americans treat similar Canadian convictions, for example. The bizarre thin...

The fact that it isn't known that "ad hominem" is a common literary term used to describe personal attacks rather than fact-based ones, does help illustrate the level of intellect at work here.

Re: Night flight into a thunderstorm

Asking for an alternative departure clearance to avoid wx is good practice and just common sense . I always consider the radar returns on the missed approach as well and ask for a alternative heading "in the event of" if the conditions require it. I also agree with the use of emergency authority whe...

I appreciate the intent with which the original post was made, to try and offer help to someone in a similar situation. But it appears to subtly attribute blame to lack of familiarity of Apple and its products, which if I may gently point out, is not really valid. Any electronic device, of any brand...

Re: Airbus VS Boeing

We don’t know if they could fly without automation, we do know they had trouble flying with it because of misunderstanding of how it works. What followed had lots of contributing factors including cultural biases that prevented the others in the crew from “screeching like an old lady”. Old, and wel...

Correction regarding Asiana, they didn’t crash because they couldn’t fly without automation. They crashed because they didn’t understand the automation they had. If only automation in these airplanes was as simple as “On/Off” but it isn’t. It’s complex and requires skill and comprehensive knowledge...

Norwegian do not charge EUR 120,000 for a type rating. If you're rated on B777/787 there's no bond. Nothing. If rated on B737, B747-400/-8 or B757/B767, the bond is EUR 30,000. For any other rating, the bond is EUR 40,000. Duration 3 years, declining on a prorated monthly basis. Pretty standard stuf...

There are also options for EU citizens to reduce their tax burden depending on the willingness to commute. That puts a lot more of those "sub-par" wages in the pocket than in Canada. Combine that with the ability to live in a cheaper city in another country - not really possible in Canada unless you...
