Re: Given the chance would you bail?
I love airplanes and I really miss them but, I also like to eat and pay my bills/rent. I just left this industry for another - hard to say no to 50K a year to start. To those of you remaining, hang in there and all the best.

True. 'Dickheads tend to be taken care of'; that's why there are so many of them in the industry.

Re: Will work for free...
Well bubbachief, I took the liberty of passing on my 'experience' to the feds as well as WCB. Never have worked for free, don't intend to start. Canada is just another banana republic. If you know anyone looking for a couple of apprentices (a decent company), pm me. itismedd, glad you are on your wa...

Re: Another apprenitce looking for work
Too bad many AMEs don't bother to help the apprentices along the way instead of treating us like dog shit. The excuse 'We all had to go through it' doesn't justify the attitude and it doesn't assist with industry retention either.

Re: Will work for free...
itismedd, if you had been injured during your ten month stint who would have covered your living/medical costs? You're not doing yourself (or anyone else) any favors. I went through the same bs and still struggle (almost licensed) which is why I am leaving this industry. Recently a small company tha...

Re: Ah, retirement!!
Awesome. After what I've experienced in this industry, I'm done. I've seen what other trades make compared to ames and I'd like to have the chance to buy my own place and have some $$$ - difficult to achieve in aviation and too much hassle. Wonder how many others will abandon 'The Dream'.

Re: Turmoil at Sunwest
In this economy, one never knows. Sunwest seems like the kind of company that would do everything possible before taking that step. Might be a good option to consider once everything settles down. Boeingboy, you are with Sunwest?

Re: Turmoil at Sunwest
Have a good friend working there. He tells me they are cutting costs hard across the board and wouldn't be surprised to see more layoffs. Good company, no doubt they'll survive just fine.

Re: 42 year old about to start AME career...bad or good idea?
Hey Pat, Yeah, if I can finish it I will but I am exploring other opportunities as well. I won't hesitate to make the jump if something does come along. It really is a shame the industry is going this way and I have learned a lot in spite of the BS. As much as I love airplanes I have to be realistic...

Re: 42 year old about to start AME career...bad or good idea?
Please listen to what these guys are telling you; I didn't and wish I had. This is a second career move for me, over 35, and have reasonable life experience. I am almost licensed but after all the shit and abuse; I've got one foot out the door. The experienced guys who could teach you are few and fa...

Re: Appreniceship/training
With no experience, a school is the way to go but I've known more than a few who have gone through ICS while working for a company and they all did fine. School doesn't mean you'll be a decent mechanic. I've worked with school grads that have been clueless like the two from Sait. One asked me why we...
