Re: Vans RV4 info

Cam: I've flown an RV 4 belonging to a friend. It's a delightful aircraft; but, as he states, it's really a 1 1/2 seat aircraft. I've flown in the back and it gets really uncomfortable after about an hour. However, it you don't intend to routinely carry passengers. it might suit your purpose. I agre...

Re: Whats your Shortest non stop flight?

From the end of the runway to where I landed: about 1100 meters
From the end of the runway to where the airplane landed: about 2500 meters

I suppose you have to be in the airplane to win the contest...?

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

I have had some quibble with TSB from time to time about the wording in some of their reports. F'rinstance: several years ago, a Piper Navajo came to grief while landing in Saint John, NB. When the final accident report was released, I disagreed with some of their statements and went so far as to pe...

"Why don't you enlighten us then?"

An impossible task. I'd just be rehashing everything that has gone on before and if you didn't understand it by now, I'd be wasting my time and yours.

Re: What was your longest non stop flight?

Here's one in which I would not have wanted to participate:

An Argus took off on May 30 1974 and landed on June 1 1974 after having added 32 hours to the airframe. The mission was a routine patrol and search for a missing boat.

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

Here in Vernon, we were advised of the requirement several weeks ago. It's a PITA, but I'll do it just to keep participating in the program.

I know some folks may refuse "on principle", but it comes down to what is more important: flying kids or standing on principle...

No, Sir; it's not beneath me. I've replenished the commissary, bought the newspapers, ordered the lunches, summonsed the taxis, paid for the taxis, schlepped the bags, served the snacks and drinks and groomed the aircraft... Hell; for $150000 -$200000 per annum, I'd baby sit the grand kids. There ha...

"...aircraft grooming is beneath my position..." Reminds me of my days in TC when an Inspector puffed "I didn't join Transport Canada to work week-ends" when it was suggested that there could be a TC presence at various airports around the country at other than week days. A misplaced sense of entitl...

Flaring is the easy part. Landing: now, that's a bit more complicated... The secret to good landings is lots of them. Thousands of them. With every landing comes information. "Is it good practice for all GA flights to keep it within gliding distance of a road?" If you're a VFR pilot and you like pushing weather in the vertical real estate of BC, then it's probably a good idea to stick with the VFR routes which tend to follow valleys and roads. If the weather is good and ...

The beauty of SPOT (and the other types) is that it narrows down the search area. I've got my 'breadcrumbs' set at five minute intervals. The trail of crumbs give a track (important if I've had to deviate from the flight planned route due to weather), so even if I'm cruising at 120 knots, I may be w...
