Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
Something that really hasn't been discussed; $12/hour is nothing. Why not start working the dock now for one of the float operators? One that's reasonable with a 182 or similar. Showing a hard work ethic and working the dock are something you'll have to do anyways. Perhaps they'll give you accomodat...

Re: College of pilots
It's really quite simple. It doesn't matter what any of us think individually. But the college, whether they advertise or do a road trip to educate us all, if they're missing the mark they won't see the numbers. Adapt or die. Unfortunately I think there may be a stubborn agenda there, they may slowl...

In the reverse of today, we wouldn't see a starting pilot at any major airline starting in the 30s and the ending up and above 200,000 for guys who could be sitting just a few feet away on the same flight deck. With valid points above, less maintenance, more efficiency is worth more, saves the compa...

Crashpad Available Calgary NW
A great "home away from home" feeling for those nights in YYC Just off Shaganappi, John Laurie and Crowchild by Market Mall set in a quiet neighbourhood. An 18 minute drive from the employee Green parking lot in Calgary or 25 from the south side hangars. It's a no frills home with a spare quiet bedr...

Looking for a place to stay close to yyc
Looking for either a crash pad or a room for rent in the NE Calgary area. Airport employee, driving 2+hours a day would like a place for 2 nights a week. Any tips or help would also be well appreciated

I also echo the VW belief. My TDI gets as great as 4.2L/100 km on just highway in the summer. Upwards of 1200 km a tank. Running Blizak winter tires, I can't get mine stuck if I tried, either. It's the MK4, which has considerable engine differences to the newer models. But the body is much heavier, ...

Boeing 737-800LR
Was flying in an 800 the other day, that had no entertainment system. The cabin crew apologized, as it appears a few of the brand new 800s don't come with the old system, in anticipation for the new system to be separately installed. I just happened to catch on the safety briefing card the LR design...

Re: Format of IFR approach plates?
Ok, so here's what I have gathered on the subject. You're question on print. While we all like the physical copies, which are great, I think NavCan is suggesting you can't re-print the entire CAP off, for resale. As mentioned above it makes sense to be able to print off what you need. What I do on p...

Ive seen both sides of both arguments. I know people who spent a very short time on the ramp, whether by fluke or bjs they were in the right seat of something much bigger than I was flying at the time, within a very short time. On the contrary, I've watched a guy sit there for over two years, only t...

Re: Fed Ct Overturns Tribunal Dismissal of Age 60 Complaints
I guess as an outsider to the subject, I've never quite understood this completely. If I can pass my medical, sim ride and all applicable testing, stay within good standing with the company and do my job every day, how is it that on a given arbitrary day that my employment should be terminated. Who ...

Half the time I go through screening, they don't ask whether I have a laptop or not, or even if I say no, they don't catch it. A 17'' laptop, doesn't get much bigger or more obvious than that. Consistency in search on even the most basic items. Not that I know much about security, but doesn't seem l...

I didn't ask about other careers, however Col. I asked about this one. For that kid I met the other day in the midst of his CPL with no idea what lays ahead. I have an alright idea of what I'm doing and how, and in all fairness that's not really your concern. I'm asking if prospective pilots from di...

A curious question for those better informed; As a person naive to the ways of the airline industry, I must inquire. I see pay rates of top positions (non-management) in the high 100K or better mark. But say someone started today at Air Canada. How long, and what are the odds one would make it to a ...

Interesting how this all correlates. Shortages cause calm. If we were in great demand, we wouldn't be focusing these conversations this way. In fact, most of us wouldn't care at all. Because our selfish ways we would all be bitching about the working conditions at the jobs that many more of us have....

Well, as for progress, at least half the people aren't dying. That's a plus, right? I'm surprised they didn't consider re-designing their training in order to save more crews and airplanes. Looks to me more like a 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Although in the haste of war, I can understand why they ...

Not nearly as monumental as when the first glider flew. They flew theirs, what, a few years before the wright flyer? So what if it had whipper sniper engines attached...it didn't go much further. Wrong date to be focusing on...just sayin. All power flying got us was a race to the bottom, and grumpy ...

There is a union at GGN. The union in question, OREA, represented GGN employees during current negotiations of their 5th agreement. Within the negotiations, employees shot down an initial proposal by management to the potential 705 wages. Later in negotiation, the 705 wages were removed completely, ...

I would buy an airplane, just so I can put "modern" air bags in said airplane. I think a decent C150 with one of those really old, fall apart glove box areas would be quite fitting, that or the very small yoke could certainly hold one. Wonderful. Although if this passes, and comes to fruition, it ho...

I'm not one to get mad easily. In fact, I'd like to think I'm able to deal with things pretty logically. But this set me off, enough. I heard about Bearskin today, and I, like you reading this, never like to hear this news. Digging a little deeper, I read what little information I could off the acci...

Goldak Airborne Surveys does 2 months on, 1 off. This can change with amount of work. When time is good, guys can get paid quite well to stay on an extra month. When things are quiet, guys get lots of time at home, sometimes to the point of layoff. That's the industry though... The caravan does some...

Also, 23 is the ILS, there's hills before it, you can get some erroneous info and interference off the glidepath/loc farther out. As well, no center line lighting. A day like today, down to 1400 RVR or less, especially at night...gets really quite fun for approach. Oh, watch out for black hole effec...

The only Pan Pan I had was a single passenger on board, who started to have (what I thought was a heart attack) a panic attack. He was fine, later. I never thought I'd be using pan pan in a glider, but it could happen in any aircraft. The local FSS did a fantastic job helping coordinate traffic. The...

Is this "standard procedure" a good thing? Is it the right answer? Just because it's happening doesn't make it right. Slavery wasn't right, inequality isn't right. So why did people accept such things at the time? If you don't want the prescribed conditions, don't apply. If you feel like accepting a...
