China Airports, Airspace and Attitudes
I regularly fly to several destinations in Asia, but the one that stands out as the absolute worst, is China. The ATC system is horrible. Most of the time, you can’t understand what they are saying, but worse is their attitude. Here are some examples… A little over a year ago, I was about 100 miles ...

Granted these aircraft are single pilot. That doesn't mean they are just as easy or safe single pilot. When things go wrong on a single pilot machine there is often more to do than one person can handle in a timely manner, and things start to get prioritised, with the bottom of the list skipped. Si...

Normally, I try to use the CRM / SOP approach with guys like this, but I work with a number of "Multi-Fingered Switch Flickers", and fully understand how they can start to piss you off! So, the next time, throw political correctness out the window and remind him that your FOM says something like... ...

Re: ATPL questions from TC
Hi, I propose to open a new topic to put in it some questions you had when you passed the ATPL Exam at TC and you think these questions was "special". This could help some of us to prepare these exams. Thank to help them. Raf I think that Transport Canada would take issue with this, because in the ...

http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/images/stories/airlines/PAY_UPS.gif 81 hour monthly guarantee. Maybe a stupid question, but do they consider seniority based on years with the company or years in position? Paying somebody $26k to sit in the left seat of a 757 seems a little odd. According to a UP...

I've heard that the US military does use FedEX for missions that are classified 'top secret'. US citizenship is required for security reasons. This is not exactly correct. Typically, if the shipment is classified "Top Secret" or "Eyes Only", it is "hand carried" by a Military Courier on a on charte...

Re: Fed -Ex only hires US Citizens?
On Fex -Ex's web site under qualifacations it states that you must have lived in the US for the past 5 yrs. to QUALIFY. HMMMM. No Canucks allowed eh :o This does not eliminate Canadians, or other nationalities, but in some cases CAN eliminate an American Citizen. The five years of residence is requ...

The gain could be set too low. Sometimes a cell won't stand out from its surroundings so if you turn down the gain the cell itself will become more obvious. If you then forget to turn it back up to zero you might miss weaker liquid water content. You can also try turning it up to +3 from time to ti...

Re: Regarding weather radar?
So flying home from an all-nighter we come across this situation regarding weather radar: Ground observations indicated cells in the 20 thousand foot range at the halfway point and the same near home (but dissipating). We get to the halfway point at FL240 and there is nothing on the airborne unit; ...

Once again, I agree with TOGA Descent.... EXCEPT! There is an engine fire procedure in FCOM 3.02.26 P2 and P3. :D It is a bit misleading because one would expect it to be under ATA number 70, but since it has to do with Fire Protection it is at 26. Regards, DNB You are absolutely correct. You just ...

It could always happen. How many times have airbus cockpits lost all screens? And don't forget that 757 that was dispatched with one gen inop, then lost the second gen, the apu, and the windmill, all for unrelated reasons. I recall, twice. And, both times the pilots caused it by not correctly apply...

I’m going to try to explain this philosophy of “Assumptions” used in Airbus manuals and documents. As most of you know, when an abnormal situation occurs in the Airbus, the flow of procedures is typically a logical sequence of events, and is part of the training found in the FCTM (Flight Crew Traini...

Okay. Slept that one off. The QRH is misleading as it wants you to start an engine, not glide to the ground. If you maintain 280 kts, after a dual engine failure, you will not glide as far as if you slowed to green dot. You haven't been paying attention. Airbus designed the QRH around "Assumptions"....

Out of curiosity, aside from fuel exhaustion, contaminated fuel, deliberate inflight shutdown (detailed in the Egypt Air QRH), and volcanic ash, what else might precipitate a dual engine failure? Don't know. Sun spots? George Bush? The list is hardly short of exhaustive. Sorry, been out drinking in...
