Re: Operating an engine on condition, is it safe?

Uh ... he's flying at a flight school, so TBO - both flight and calendar time - certainly does apply to his commercially-registered aircraft in Canada! Colonel, my humble apologies. My reference to "private" was mis-placed and not apropriate to an FTU question. Guess I should read more before openi...

Re: Operating an engine on condition, is it safe?

Dazed, "On Condition" means more than just dropping the oils. If you review AN B041, it gives you a better idea what's 'supposed' to happen to an engine in the on-condition program. Deteriorating performance should show up before the 'fly to failure' thing. Also, in Canada, there's no "12 year" thin...

Re: Work Or Not To Work - Sickness Is The Question.

Working when you are sick causes more lost time and is harder on the economy in the long run. Google: Presenteeism (as opposed to absenteeism) For those hard assed bastards that believe it's 'manly' to work when sick, the sooner you die the better! Keep your germs to yourself and don't be so inconsi...

Re: Private vs commercial maintained aircraft

The whole "on condition" confuses me, is it on condition until it blows apart or are the proper inspections being done to ensure continued airworthiness. I agree it can be confusing, but "ON CONDITION" does NOT mean FLY UNTIL FAILURE . It means fly until performance starts to deteriorate. AN-B041 d...

Like I said, Reflex Charger.

Often seen in Ni-Cad Constant Current Chargers. Now seems to be being brought into the lead acid world.

Re: Battery charging/sulphation question

Maybe there's some confusion here between Pulse or Reflex Charging and how that's supposed to help with sulphidation. (see: http://www.christiecbs.com/rf80-k.htm )

If not, +1 to Hocus Pocus.

Re: New (different) battery: elementary work?

The new battery weighs 2.5lbs more than the old; so I'll need a new W&B report. Is it mandated that that has to be prepared by an AME? Or can issue it myself? Edit: I guess that means that item (4) is triggered: "(4) the mass distribution in a structural element" - so it does count as a major modif...

Re: New (different) battery: elementary work?

Really? So under this reasoning, plugging in your headset requires a maintenance release? It's not on the list... That head set wasn't part of the type design, so by pluging it in and interfacing with the aircraft communications system you are modifying the aircraft? I don't think so. Agreed. Plugg...

Re: New (different) battery: elementary work?

We agree that 625 Appendix A is an exhaustive list of eligibale tasks. If it isn't in the list, it's not Elementary Work. Embodying an STC on an aircraft is NOT in the list, therefore it is not an eligible task. Doesn't matter if it's simply a paperwork STC or an STC requiring Major Modification. If...

Re: New (different) battery: elementary work?

Removal and replacement of aircraft batteries IS elementary work providing you are replacing it with the same part number battery or any other battery that is in the IPC (or PMA'd /TSO'd part). No maintenance release is required, but a Log Book entry is still required. Since your example states an S...

As stated, an M1/M2 encompasses all the licensing scenarios. But here's the thing. If you work for an AMO with a (example) structures rating, you can only hold an ACA for structures if you have the required experience. Great point, AND DON'T FORGET you must also be able to prove you have obtained t...

The issue of "Time" with respect to qualifying for an AME licence is fairly clear in the Regs: AWM 566.03(4)(d) ii) Experience requirements expressed in months are predicated upon full time employment of 1800 working hours per year. Applicants with part time experience acquired at a lower rate than ...
