Re: Demand for float drivers 2019?

From what I’ve seen, most operators have responded to the shortage of pilots by lowering hour requirements, with the results we are now seeing. Compared to 5-10 years ago, jobs now are abundant and minimums practically non existent. The other response from operators would be to increase pay for expe...

Re: Harbour Air switching to battery powered planes

There were some interviews about this on local radio with the CEO of Harbour Air and the CEO of MagniX. They said that for every hour of flying it will take 45 minutes to recharge. The Beaver will have about an hour and a half worth of endurance, so enough to do a Vancouver - Victoria round trip. TB...

Re: Boeing Tumbles on Grand Jury Subpoena Probing 737 MAX Approval

By the fall this will all have blown over and be such a distant memory that nobody will remember much or anything at all about the MAX. Unless of course Boeing doesn't fix the issue and it stays in the news for a few more months. People have short memories, and getting shorter.

Re: Mandatory life jacket wearing coming for most seaplanes

DAR, I appreciate your perspective as someone who has been through a real life situation. I don't know the specifics of your incident, but I am interested to know how you came to be ejected. Did a seat belt fail, or was the event just that violent? I presume the ejection path would be forward? On mo...

Re: Mandatory life jacket wearing coming for most seaplanes

In a floatplane accident, you are statistically much, much more likely to be trapped upside down in a cabin full of water than you are to be ejected. No doubt that in the rare ejection situation having the jacket already on is going to help. My issue is that they are using the many examples of peopl...

Mandatory life jacket wearing coming for most seaplanes

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/life-jackets-mandatory-seaplanes-transport-canada-1.5044938 It’s been a long time coming, so not a total surprise. Still, I don’t see how life jackets would have helped in the Lyall Harbour example they use in the article, or the many other cases where...

It's because North West Company, a major cargo customer of Calm Air in particular, bought North Star Air and will be cancelling their cargo contracts with Calm and other EIC carriers.

Re: Superior Airways

Very interesting to hear what the flying was like in those days and the histories of some of the planes. Things sure are different now. You are right about MXR, it is on the coast. I have a few hours in it from when it worked out of Port McNeill. I had a passenger on board one day, a former pilot wh...

Re: NT Air King Air Accident - Pilot Discussion Thread

I found this statement from one of the survivors interesting.
In a telephone interview with CBC News, passenger Loralie Sobolik said the first sign of trouble was a leak she spotted as she was boarding the plane, but said the pilot told her there was nothing to worry about.

Re: Photography Questions and Tips

I've got a couple of bags which I can choose from, depending on the mission. A big backpack which holds everything - nice to have everything in one place, but not always so portable or convenient. If space is limited or I'm on a day trip I'll take a smaller bag which can hold a body with a telephoto...
