Re: Floatplane pilots
The talent pool for float pilots is shrinking every year. In my opinion float pilots are an endangered species on their way to extinction. Operators that are willing to open their check books and pay decent money will be able to find pilots. Cheap/stingy operators won't be able to find pilots and m...

Re: TC Charge for Medical Renewal
For years and years I never got charged the $55 for the medical. But then every few years a final notice or equivalent would appear in the mail demanding several hundred bucks in back fees or they would send it to collection agency. I always wondered why they didn’t have my address for routine bills...

Re: Which Beaver is Better
An amphib gets you twice the maintenance and half the load vs the same plane on straight floats. If you are trying to make money, straight floats is the way to go. Amphibs are for private guys or government.

Re: Sunglasses: To Polarize or Not to Polarize
I never understood the hate for polarized glasses. It's all I use and I love them. Colours are richer and more saturated with increased contrast, meaning everything looks better. There aren't too many screens in the planes I fly but I can see them all clearly. And if you are flying floats it helps y...

Wanted: Float block time central Ontario
Looking to see if anyone has a Husky, Cessna, or even Beaver on floats or amphibs they would be willing to rent out block time on. Looking in the Sudbury/Parry Sound area. Could also be interested in a partnership opportunity for same if anyone knows of one available. Thanks!

I use the Lightspeed Zulu in a -2 and 3T, works great! Better passive noise cancelling than Bose but I still always keep a spare set of batteries in my bag.

Kodiak Quest down Van Isle June 21/23
I didn’t see this posted anywhere yet. There it is, I knew I had seen the 44% number somewhere. https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/almost-half-of-canadians-sympathetic-to-concerns-and-frustrations-of-ottawa-trucker-protest Leger surveyed 1,546 people between Feb. 4 and Feb. 6 and found that, while 62 per cent of all respondents stro...

The 44% who say they support truckers, which is more than enough to win an election. I don’t know where you got the 44% number but let’s go with it. Now subtract 44 from 100. What result do you get? Is that number larger than 44? No? There you go. There it is, I knew I had seen the 44% number somew...

Unfortunately (for him), we are united against him. We are? Who is this we? The tens if not hundreds of thousands of people from across the country who lined the roads and overpasses in sub freezing temperatures in January to cheer the convoy on. The folks who raised over $10 million in the space o...

Trudeau has dug himself quite a hole, and he just keeps digging. It will be interesting to see how he gets himself out of this. In doing so he has united the country is a way not imaginable even a month ago. Unfortunately (for him), we are united against him. JT is usually a savvy politician but he ...

Sad to hear. That guy was a legend! I had my first few medicals done by him when I started flying around the year 2000, and I remember wondering "how old is this guy?". Anyone know? Quite a colourful guy.

Re: Question for the float/bush pilots!
Hi there, I’ll take a stab at answering your questions. 1) 4-5 months max for seasonal operations. Mid May at the earliest to mid October at the latest - in Ontario this would be an operator where you got on at the start of the year and stayed till the end of hunting season. I’d imagine the season w...

The opposite of this are the folks who try to say as much as possible, as fast as possible, making their transmission completely incoherent.
There’s a happy medium between these two ends of the spectrum.

Re: How to Become an Air Tanker Pilot?
Yup, good advice. Plus a good bit of multi, and flying boat time too if you can get it (if you're wanting to be on a 215/415). Fire fighting is one of the most recession proof sub industries in aviation.
