Re: Why can they get passenger rights but no proper rest and fatigue rules?
Watch what you wish for. The EU regs aren’t much better then Canada. And it takes way more time to figure out. Shorter days also lead to more days worked and less days off. What do you think needs changing? I think all we need is lowering duty day length with increased sectors and limiting night ti...

I'm still having this issue, has it been figured out for everyone else? I haven't been able to book on them since November.

Re: The other side of new duty regs?
Number of cycles is a big issue. I remember a 10 hour day of 12 cycles in the North was a lot more fatiguing than what I do right now at 12-14 hour, 2 cycles. In fact, talking to coworkers in my 705 op with a lot of day turns, you will find the desire for the new regs a lot more muted. Regionals, t...

Re: First Air ATR posting
There is a really high turnover in first officers, the job sounds really good on paper, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, but when you get into the actual grind of it, it's not a great schedule. 15 days on 13 days off, if you commute, knock an extra day and a half off your days off because nothing connects ...

Re: North America 737/320 Pay Round-up
First Air has a combination of salary and an hourly "bonus". The top end pay is at year 9 in the captain seat at $10,915 base pay per month, plus $61.62 per hour. There is a pay guarantee of 740 hours per year that you're topped up to if you don't meet it by the end of the year. Calculated out that ...

705.01 This Subpart applies in respect of the operation by a Canadian air operator, in an air transport service or in aerial work involving sightseeing operations, of any of the following aircraft: (a) an aeroplane, other than an aeroplane authorized to operate under Subpart 4, that has a MCTOW of ...

Re: Swoop hiring foreign scabs
Swoop is not a startup. That’s the point. It’s a company with 100 same type aircraft, with over 1000 type rated pilots, probably another few thousand papplications on file, that refuses to operate with its own pilot group. Hiring foreign pilots to start a new company is one thing. Hiring foreign pil...

Re: Summit ATR
90K would be the bottom of the pay scale not flying very much. We all know a guy who knows a guy. I know a guy who said you didn't make 100 as a four engine jet skipper until like year 4 or 5. So fetching the same salary on an atr is unlikely. Besides, first air pays some of the best salaries in th...

With the 14/14 schedule, is it possible to group those into 14 days in a row, then 14 off in a row? And do you get vacation on top of this? Also, that requirements do you have for an off the street Captain?

Re: CommutAir is working on sponsoring Canadian pilots
The big difference being when Canadian operators did it they did so to cut costs and avoid hiring Canadians. Today in America it seems like there are no Americans to hire and they are paying good money to fill the flight deck. It seems that way, however it's not really the case. What's happening is...

Re: 705 Guaranteed Days Off
First Air get's 11 GDO's. The Iqaluit rotators working the 15 day on 13 day off schedule get a couple more days off each month, however they also do training on their time "out" and can't take vacation on their time "in" so it works out to be about the same.

Now, I think some/many/none/most on this board realize that I wasn't a fan of ALPA intruding into the relationship between myself and my employer. Que sera, sera . That said, I don't think it unfair to be critical of ALPA for allowing the forces social justice to intrude upon their ranks. I underst...

Beware of the training bond as well. If you apply and get the call, don't break the bond. Keep your promise. Know what you are getting yourself into.. I would kibitz that all pilots should follow that advise. Leaving early after an employer invests in you makes the rest of us look bad and brought i...

Is there an INC REF switch on the ATR? Was it left on for takeoff? Stick shaker after takeoff? Never flew the ATR but the Q400.. I seen in the simulator multiple times it left on from the previous exercise and the stick shaker going off on a normal takeoff. Thoughts? There is an icing angle of atta...

Their Facebook page says Transwest scheduled service is still running, so likely all the bookings have moved over to Transwest Saabs.
