Re: Plane damaged by float access hatch

Most of the older floats that I’ve dealt with had the hatch open towards the front so even if not latched the wind kept it closed.
The Aerocet open towards the aircraft so it might be possible to open during flight & stress the hinge.

My private had minimum requirements of 3 stops so I landed at Abbotsford,& chilliwack & circled hope & landed at boundary bay;for commercial it needed to be 300 nm one way so it was somewhere north of Prince George. On the ifr cc it was a shot at Abbotsford, shot at Victoria, hold at active pass, shot a...

Start with the easy stuff;Any fluid leaks,or puddling under the Amphibs?Does the reservoir fluid level drop after each event? When cycling the gear does the sound of the pump fluctuate up & down? How old is the pump?Any wetness near the pump,or in the fuselage?

Re: float plane mooring ropes

Only floatplanes with no ropes I ever saw were never tied to docks & always stored on land.
In 1983 when I bought my 185 my dad told me to get ropes on the float struts or I’ll regret it- he was on the Otters in the Canadian military.

Re: float plane mooring ropes

I ‘ve always tied a rope on the front strut that was long enough to go past the rear strut & the rear rope was long enough to go around the front strut & sit on the inside of the strut just past the rear float strut mount, both ropes having a knot on the end.I always grabbed the rope tied to the fron...

I’ve held a cat1 for about 25 years, renewed without issues end of June & heard nothing until I sent them an email in December; got an email back next day saying it was just processed & here’s the bill. Pacific Region.

Are there any RCO or DRCO’s that can be reached in the air prior to letdown?

I’ve used those in remote areas of BC to close flightplans.

Re: Westjet CYHZ

A346 Dude;

Post was about dispatch giving you as much information as they had - in the earlier days some at dispatch thought they ran the airline.
First incident was PWA in the early 70's,second incident was CAI.
You are right though both have long disappeared.

Re: Westjet CYHZ

Not related to the overrun but related to dispatch reliability from an airline captain friend of mine; He was on his way out in a 737-200 & upon reviewing the dispatch info found that he was 8000 lbs light on fuel & requested the fuel be put on board before he would allow pushback - dispatch told hi...

I had a friend once that was racking up the dual & was pissed at how many hours she had without seeing any solo time in the future, she asked the chief flight instructor to evaluate her & tell her what the problem was - he watched her for the flight & noticed that she couldn’t see properly so he got ...

Every examiner is different,in my experience there will be failures so be ready to figure out hold entries without the help of the 750 & the 600.Also be able to fly the hold & approach without the autopilot just in case. Best part is once you pass your renewals can be done in a redbird without havin...

You could always call the doctors office where you got the medical and ask them who they recommend. During my last cat 1 medical I asked my doctor if I was missing anything & he told me that if I did transport would send me a letter - turns out I missed a hearing test & they requested one.A quick ca...

You can have a whole rack of radios & if they’re not turned on it won’t prevent anything. Always have worn life jackets & so have my passengers in my 185,you don’t have to wear them if you don’t want to - but you won’t be getting in my plane.
Full briefing on doors, windows ,seat belts & life jackets prior to entry for every flight.
