Re: Renewal ADBs Coming Out - Check Them Carefully
My adb expires April 1st.I was told not to send it in before the end of January so I sent it in the end of February & am awaiting its arrival. I haven’t received any medical stickers in a few years & asked my doctor about it - he said that medical was way behind & his signature would be enough. Inte...

Re: long wait for ADB
I was told by a few people not to try before the new year to I sent renewal application yesterday & it arrived in Surrey today. My book expires April 1st so I shall see how long it takes. I do have a copy of the expiry extension, but was told by a local examiner that the extension is only good if the...

I have to agree with big pistons, get everything down cold in the sim. Try to get at least one sim session a day- I can handle two with a break but no more as I get tired & make mistakes but at least when I have tried a third session it has helped me recognize my fatigue level. Once you start keep at...

Re: 300NM CPL requirment
Back in the late ‘80’s I had lots of cross country & float time & decided to upgrade my license to a commercial rating - this exact subject came up so I phoned transport & they said at the time to just hilight at least 1 of the cross country flights in my logbook that met their requirements for the ...

Re: VFR minimums for Group 3 Test
Find out who the examiner is going to be & have a chat about their minimums for a group 3. I have done many group 3 in the aircraft to ils minimums for real in crap weather - briefed the examiner on the weather & away we went. Lower mainland was so ugly for one ride I had to use Victoria as an alter...

One hedge fund cockroach sees a better income for his planes somewhere else & takes them back, another sees a chance to make money & leases them aircraft to replace these - looks like a normal day.

Grain worker on the west coast starts at $40.00 an hour, only requires a pulse. Trades are about $10.00 an hour more. Every time I was offered a flying job it was much less than what unemployment insurance would of paid me to stay home, heard the excuse that you have to want the job - my reply was tha...

Re: Cylinders replaced
When I broke in a IO520D in our 185 I was briefed by the mechanic before start & pretty much had him do all the checks as we taxied to the runway. Minimum delay at the hold line.I flew the plane & he flew the engine until the temperatures settled down,we stayed close to the airport in case something...

I sure pissed off my 737 captain friend back in the early 80’s when I made the same money as him- didn’t get ahead of me until he stepped up to the 767 ; his income doubled mine when he went to the 747-400. I am happy sleeping in my own bed every night & many want to talk to me about owning my own C...

I’m not in the aviation industry but I am a millwright in the Grain industry on the west coast. Starting wage is $38.00,no skills required.full benefits & a pension if you stay long enough. Our current tradespeople make anywhere from $45 to $50 per hour. Work schedule is 6 on & 3 off,8 hour day - 3 ...

Re: Pilot check out
Not going to argue with any previous statement but my buddy after retirement wanted to go back on my insurance to use the plane on floats - they asked for me to sit right seat for a couple of hours just to make sure he was ok.He had over 35,000 hours total & over 4000 hours in 185’s on floats - insu...

I am in the process of renewing currency in my 185 after having not flown it for over 4 years. The minimum requirement of the check pilot was 500 hours in type & current in that aircraft. The same qualifications will be required when this aircraft goes to Amphibs later this year. There was no mention ...

Re: I'm going to court
I went for my Cat 1 renewal a couple of years ago & doctor asked for a hearing test - just had one at work so I gave him the card; told me that it didn’t meet transport’s format but he would submit it to them.Their answer was a letter suspending my Cat 1 until I provided a valid hearing test so I we...

Re: Interesting airplane ads
The other side of the coin for people like myself who have owned their 185’s for many years(37 plus for myself) - the insurance companies are seeing these adds & suggesting that your are under insured so if you follow their recommendation & your insurance costs go way up.

Not sure anyone will find relevance in my next comment, but it came from an old captain who flew Boeing’s 18 wheeler to Asia for the last 10 years of his career - If the guy writing my cheque’s tells me to fly it upside down then that’s what I’ll do. Pretty sure if he was told it’s mandatory to wear ...

I haven’t flown for a few years but I’ve always printed a screenshot of intended & alternate approach plates just in case.

Re: 180 float time
I’m in the middle of renewal for my 185;total time in type was the most important but they also asked for a breakdown in each configuration - wheels, floats & Amphibs. If I had skis they would of also had me report that time as well.
