Re: Citation down North of Kelowna

I feel the need to respond to the speculators on this specific forum. 1. A quick examination of the aircraft track on FlightAware reveals updates in the order of one per minute. My guess is that the ATC tapes that the TSB will be examining with respect to this flight will likely be updated more freq...

Re: CYYJ Departures destined for Edmonton ??

C560 Ultra, 3000 fpm climb rate initially. As for departure times, we have departed morning, afternoon and evening, makes no difference at all... Compare this flight profile (WestJet): http://flightaware.com/live/flight/WJA258/history/20130813/1600Z/CYYJ/CYEG with this one for us: http://flightaware...

CYYJ Departures destined for Edmonton ??

OK, I need a question answered, no speculation required, just facts please. When we depart Victoria, usually rwy 09, with Edmonton as the destination, we inevitably get a left turn through 1000 feet to a 300 heading. Roughly 5 minutes into the flight, we get a right turn to 320 heading. There we sit...

Is Jazz prohibited from cancelling IFR?

Inbound to YXS, Rwy 33, Jazz RJ coming from Vancouver. ATC requests he "keep his speed up, you're number one to an aircraft inbound from the East". The weather "vis greater than 15 miles 4,600 overcast, no precip or lower cloud". Jazz hangs on to the IFR all the way in. If you have ever been to YXS,...

Re: YYJ to Edmonton Departure routing

Last year, we did Victoria three times in one week. On the third trip, I thought I'd help ATC out with the routing, and filed Victoria - Tofino - Nanaimo - VIDRI. The routing will have greater meaning to guys and gals that fly on the West Coast. Needless to say, I just barely hit "submit" on the fli...

Re: YYJ to Edmonton Departure routing

We do this leg in a C441 countless times in the summer months. And yeah, the whole departure thing is frustrating. However, after attending the CBAA convention in Calgary last week, I do have a better appreciation of what Nav Can deals with every day. If the departure procedure needs to be how it is...

CYPK during the Olympics

Greetings, Can anyone shed some light on where Pitt Meadows will fit in regarding the 2010 Olympics? Trying to figure out if a private aircraft can land there during the Olympic games without all the pre-clearance and reservations procedures. Looking at just dropping the pax off to catch a limo, bug...

Hey "Cat", help me out here... The epitome of aviation was "Ace McCool"... but Alzheimers is fogging my memory. The good thing about Alzheimers is that I make new friends every day!! However, did the "Ace" wear epaulettes? We used to always wear the 4-stripe on the right shoulder, and the 3-stripe o...

Re: Cell phone interference report

This report is from 2003. I'm guessing that things have changed for both avionics, and for cell phones. Besides, you'd never get a 2003 vintage cell phone onboard an aircraft now. I highly doubt they would "fit in the sizing device located near the check-in counter"! Gramps "The best safety device i...

I gave up the "writers cramp" paper version 15 years ago. Keep it on the computer and email a back-up of the database to myself every 4 or 6 months. Just remember to keep the install disks in a safe place, and you're laughin'... Best to do the same with your duty time spreadsheet as well :-) Gramps

I think the demise of the original Avro Arrow was one of the darkest days in Canadian aviation history.

For just a fleeting moment, we were on top of the world.

Another F.S.S. down the drain...

Great, here we go again. Pr. George is the lastest airport to lose it's F.S.S. As of 0200 yesterday morning, they packed their bags and pulled up stakes. So now when the tower is closed (2300 to 0600 local) we get to rely on Pacific Radio. So what gives? I can't be the only one who is concerned abou...
