3 options: 1.If you don't like the wage, don't apply. 2. If you like the wage...LOL, nobody likes the wage. 3. If you don't like the wage, but understand that a little risk now could very likely pay big rewards later, then get on board, grab an oar and start rowing. You will be expected to work hard...

+1 3 concurrent ATIS at YYZ: RMK PCPN VRY LGT. Yet 20 min ground delay PLUS 10 min airborne hold resulted in landing assignment on a runway (6R) still being reported as braking action "fair-poor". Not a big deal, but seriously... for a relatively minor snow event (it's Canada, snow in December is no...

Inverted, your statement is incorrect. Everyone at WestJet sat back for years and laughed at how Air Canada drove themselves into bankruptcy time and time again by trying to steal WestJet's market share. I think you meant to say "Executives at WestJet identified a weakness in our main competitor. Mo...

Just like drivers, seems like some people like to taxi as if it's summer time. Easy on the speed fellas, specially when you're steering a tight turn, you have a lot of momentum behind you! D' YA THINK?? Gee Sanjet, Thanks for the advice. Maybe, the crew was using proper technique, and taxing slow. M...

Re: New: dividends and share buyback
I haven't operated our YZF route yet, but it is only reasonable that a Canadian airport which supports scheduled ops of transport category jet aircraft would provide frequent and timely RSC reports. It has always amazed me how accepting pilots are of the sub standard level of service at our large an...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
The type of WJ pilot who stomps his feet and complains that his "career progression" is being interrupted is the type who has some false ideas about how the aviation business works. I made 737 skip before 40, and I consider that extremely lucky. Or should I complain that 911 slowed down my career pr...

Re: Impact of YYC no longer accepting general aviation
Single engine airplanes generally don't fly into large international airports (which YYC claims to be) training or otherwise. The costs incurred by airlines waiting for the slow moving traffic can be significant. A 737 burns more fuel in 10 min of taxi (or idling on the tarmac) than a cessna burns i...

Re: YYC's loved "F" word
Thanks for the insight. The delays don't really bother me that much, as long as I've already pushed off the gate it's all +$$ anyway. A good hold, plus a red alert can buy my wife some pretty nice shoes. If the airport won't listen to ATC with regards to center line lighting at the high speeds, they...

Re: YYC's loved "F" word
You're right, FLL does have multiple runways, but in my experience, the secondary ones are rarely used for anything bigger than a Navajo. That being said, I'm not trying to make a direct comparison to YYC. From the responses, I gather that the root of the problem is 1. The location of the 34/28 inte...

Re: YYC's loved "F" word
Serious question, please don't be offended, How come the Americans can move traffic so quickly? Even at airports with one runway. KFLL is a great example, lots of airliners, lots of GA, several other airports very close (MIA, FXE, etc) and essentially one active runway. And these guys SERIOUSLY PUSH...

Re: What do you trust more, "the automation" or the pilot?
Well nobody's dumb enough to admit it: "Yes I am checking my messages, almost done, be with you in just a sec..." The usual answer is "No, was just trying to find my pen, that I dropped, way down into my flight bag..." They're very crafty, that's why we call the FO's, not co-pilots.

Re: Flight Director
Dual cue (command bars) is a more sophisticated system. It offers 2 independent command bars, one for pitch, and one for roll. The pilot is able to follow both, or just one. IE if a pitch mode was disengaged there would be no pitch bar, but still a roll command bar.

There's a very good reason the Wal Mart is the largest corporation in the world. Consumers want no frills pricing. They want to decide for themselves what to spend the extra cash on. WS spends lots of time and money researching the trends and getting feedback. In addition, the "folksy, fun, caring" ...

Wow, to listen to you guys speculate, this crew must have floated 4000' past the touch down zone, then exited the surface at a high rate of speed while standing on the brakes, tires on fire, with full reverse thrust screaming. All the while never considering the option of a go-around because of the ...

Re: WJA RNP short transitions
We have to choose the TRANSITION (ie short or long) when we initially load the approach in the FMC. This is usually done well before top of descent. 200 NM back is fairly common. If we choose to load the SHORT transition, and it is not provided by ATC, then vectors are required if IMC. Contrary to F...

Re: Strong x-wind? declare an emergency.
When did this become a low fuel event? I don't recall that being part of the situation. If that was indeed the case, then big points lost for not saying anything til on final. Either way, if you need to prove a point to ATC, don't do it by flying unpredictably and unprofessionally in the airspace we...

Re: Strong x-wind? declare an emergency.
Declaring an emergency when none exists is an abuse of command. Deviating from ATC clearance mere seconds after declaring an emergency is dangerous and should only de done in dire situations. The correct procedure is to go around, then request a hold while ATC coordinates the runway, the wind change...

There WAS NO EMERGENCY. 35Kt x wind on a dry runway in a Boeing is a non event. Might spill your coffee or skin off a tire if your technique is incorrect. The gear isn't going to fail, and no one is going to get hurt. Not ideal, but certainly not unsafe. Blundering around JFK's airspace with out a c...
