Re: GA flight to Montreal

I just did call Aeroshell FBO and they said landing ($220) plus $95 a night FBO fee with no fuel discounts. So I'm looking at $400 plus HST plus fuel at CYUL, unless other FBOs are better. I remember the overnight fee being somewhere in the $75 range but that was a few years back. $220 for a landin...

Check out this thread. viewtopic.php?f=54&t=139385
Lots of good info about YUL. Bottom line, super easy.

Hope this helps.

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Thanks ATC_Anstey. Appreciate your time to answer in such detail.

Back to whether RedAndWhiteBaron did anything wrong. I say absolutely not. There, thread back on track. LOL

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Thanks for the broader explanation ATC_Anstey. Curious why these flight checks come with little notice or as a surprise. Who/what are they checking that precludes advance notice? Sorry for the thread drift.

Re: Should have asked for the option...

NAV Canada showed up that day for a surprise flight check of the ILS instrumentation in an executive jet (never got the exact type) and a flight plan that took the better part of an entire circuit to communicate. I recall them cancelling IFR at least twice on the same flight. Thanks ... all makes s...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Like someone else said I would hazard a guess that having to deal with the flight check put whoever was working in a bad mood and that likely caused them to sound like they were upset at you. In the context of this conversation, what is a "flight check"? Sorry to ask if its obvious and I missed it.

Re: Flying to YUL

Flown into YUL many times in an Archer both VFR & IFR, A non issue. Super friendly and I never got the sense that I was unwelcome. If you contact ATC in English they will continue in English. As mentioned above tell the controller that you are new to the airport and they will guide you. If VFR get f...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

I've been volunteering my time, aircraft and fuel for many years supporting what I believe to be an excellent program. I can see both sides of this issue and have no problem with getting a VS Check but at the same time resent being forced to. I'd get over the resentment quickly and just go get one i...

Re: COPA Successfully Lobbies TCCA on IFR Testing Requirements

I think what they are actually celebrating is that TC wanted all IFR tests to be done in an aircraft equipped with an IFR approved GPS installed. Where are you reading that TC no longer requires that? My eyes are failing... https://copanational.org/en/2017/11/30/copa-drives-ifr-testing-changes/ A b...

Re: Trip to Port Hardy. Advice solicited

Landing at CYZT, I'll call CANPASS. You must call at least 2 hours before but no more than 48 hours prior to the aircraft's estimated time of arrival. Its random if they attend. In all my trips returning to Southern Ontario I have only physically seen them once. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/canp...

Chris

Have a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=63878
Its a few years old so the pricing will be off but the concepts still apply.
Bottom line - go for your PPL if you can manage.

Hope this helps

In addition to the hold and approaches expect some sort of simulated issue/emergency. Alternator, vacuum, auto pilot, blocked pitot, partial panel etc.

Re: Pre-Purchase Aircraft Checks/Inspection

The current owner should be willing to fly the aircraft to a shop of your choice. If not, walk away. The cost of the inspection will be at your expense however a small investment in the grand scheme of things. IMHO do not buy any aircraft without having either your mechanic or an independent one (no...

Best Carry-On Luggage ?

I while ago I saw a thread about the best carry-on rollerboard/luggage. I have tried in vain to search for it. Failing that, any suggestions? Most better quality bags are OK but I seem to quickly wear out the wheels which causes me to struggle when rolling it. I know, first world problem but appreci...
