Re: PK Screws.

I once stopped an apprentice with RTV silicone. "Where are you going with that," I asked. "Some screw won't hold," he answered. He was going to dip the screw in sealant and just plug it up there. Now none of those panels are structural, I know but we put a lot of hours on those airplanes and they ge...

Re: The backwards tales

Thank you hedley and all the helpful people, the book is on order and I'll give a report if any are interested.

I'll be looking for a good airframe and engine for the fun and enjoyment of something other than club Cessnas. Not interested in dashboard toys apart from engine management.

Re: The backwards tales

You're absolutely right, I'm a cheap bastard. I expect if I buy a plane, I will be trying to save a penny at every turn and put the cash down on the flying if I can. There is a serious margin between being cautious and holding out for maintenance money however. Believe me, I know how expensive flyin...

Re: The backwards tales

Of course not, it's a traveling machine not a C-150. Nor would I rent one and spin it if there were any to rent.

Still, what I am looking for is technical stuff about the C model and what to look for when buying one.

The backwards tales

Has anyone purchased the book "the backwards tales" by Coy Jacobs? It is billed as the essential knowledge book about Mooneys and you shouldn't buy one without having read it, blah blah... The thing is, it's pretty expensive and I have not come across a second-hand copy so far. Can anyone give me so...

Re: Alright Airplane Owners, someone help me`

Maintenance costs can be greatly reduced if you can find an AME that will let you do some of the more mundane work such as removing and re-installing inspection panels and things, doing oil changes, cleaning spark plugs...all of which are within the TC guidelines for owner assisted maintenance. It ...

Air cadets, man. I soloed the glider at 17 and did my ppl at 18 but I was one of the old ones. Lots of kids I taught glider are flying commercial or CF now and they only had 23 to 27 dual flights to make it in to the world of aviation or go home. The success rate is impressive and I'm not sure I cou...

Re: ZINC CHROMATE PRIMER

Tempo zinc chromate primer is sold everywere Actually you have to look for it, most of the tempo is "chromate free" zinc primer. I'm not sure they can sell the good stuff anymore in Canada. Whether it is chromate or oxide, what you are looking for is the zinc. That's the element that will inhibit c...

Hi, Don't know about exeltech but I assure you it is possible to live your whole life in Montreal without knowing much french. I'm not saying it's the greatest way to experience life in montreal but hey, thousands of people manage it all the time. The area around the airport is mostly english speaki...

For helicopters,

It also helps if you are a maniacal perfectionist. Balancing things and looking for the elusive abnormal vibration requires a special kind of personality.

I can't figure how they do it. :prayer:

Re: 406 ELT

What about bending up a hat section and bridging it between the two stringers you find on most Cessnas. I know the 100G loading sounds like alot at first but remember 100 x1.85 lbs ( weight of ELT approx) is only 185lbs of force. Using 2024-T3 0.040-0.050 with some MS20470-4 rivets would be suffici...

Re: Good deals on paint shops?

The gentlemen above are right. There is no sense going the cheap route on a complete paint job. The machine needs to be stripped, cleaned and prepped using acids, disassembly is required and that immediately involves a maintenance release. Talk to your AME about it. Aesthetics aside, airplanes will ...
