Re: Fired RIM execs 'chewed through restraints' in flight

CBC Follows up, with as much detail as they were able to glean from the court transcripts to answer reader / commenter questions... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/12/11/f-vp-hanomansing-rim-execs.html?cmp=rss It certainly was an attention-grabbing headline: "Fired RIM execs 'chewed through...

Re: 4 on 4 off Dispatch Schedule - Good or Bad??

4 on 4 off is fairly common.... but there are others, I once did a 6 and 6, I've also done 2/2/3/2/2/3 (that one was weird), I also wrote a 5/5 schedule. It will depend on a lot on how the rotation is in terms of day and night shifts some go day/ day/ day / nights so you're only working on set of ni...

Re: CBC The National: Report on SMS this Wednesday

That program was horrible reporting. The TW accident was a poor example of SMS not working. Furthermore, the Air Canada Simulator example was silly and obvious. KK7 and The Hammer have it right. I feel that this issue of SMS is separate from the Issue of TC oversight. SMS is a great tool to help a ...

Re: How bad is Thompson Manitoba?

The highschool isn't great, but I've seen far worse in some neighbourhoods in Toronto, and Vancouver, ... it's a matter of perspective I suppose. Some of the elementary schools are better than others, when I left in 2006 Deerwood was still considered one of the better ones. I spent 6 years there as ...

Correct me if I'm wrong....

But I had someone who should have known tell me years ago that in general the per operating hour maintenance costs for any of the Airbuses is considerably higher than the comparable Boeing - is that a myth? an over exaggeration? someone's biased opinion?

Just to add a note clarifying.... no per diems do NOT count as income in calculating child support, HOWEVER.... you can't not declare the per diems AND deduct your travel expenses (as those are supposedly covered by the per diems) It's one or the other ... show the per diems AND the expenses OR show...

Hi all, Can anybody tell me what the TC Flight Dispatch generic exams look like? Are the questions multiple choice? And is it allowed to have any books with you during the exam, like the AIM? Or do you have to know the complete AIM by heart? I have the Flight Dispatcher Written Test Guide (FD-Ops e...

Re: Throwing peanuts at FA? ....bad headline, serious issue

For goodness sakes, it shouldn't matter if it is a peanut or a knife. No one should have to stand for anyone throwing anything in anger at work. Poor guy can't make it through a flight without a pacifier? Grow up, drive or stay home. Exactly! We're seeing more and more cases of 'air rage', at the v...

Dreadful headline for an issue much more serious than they want to imply. It really downplays the seriousness of really unruly passengers

Re: Pet Airways - Are we missing out on a niche market in Ca

My thought was initially - perhaps a '27 cargo hop run sorta thing - YYT, YQM, YQB, YUL, YYZ, YQT, YWG, YQR, YYC, YVR, YYJ - Mon, Wed, Fri, and the return trips on Tues, Thurs, Sat. Something like that I'm sure pet owners - especially of large dogs (I'm a Newf owner myself), would be quite willing t...

Pet Airways - Are we missing out on a niche market in Canada

Pet Airways: Interesting concept, a) you can fit a lot more dog/cat kennels in an aircraft than people b) pet owners would (and do) love it, c) could likely keep the cost of the tickets in the same ballpark as a passenger ticket and still make money. I know for folks with bigger dogs especially (I ...
