Re: In person assessment audio section
I have heard it said that this portion of the test is also a risk taking assessment. If you are willing to take a chance and risk a lot of guesses, it will not look good

Re: Curious about being a VFR!
Mike and Hike, We were "given" ipads for all of our course material and it was loaded onto our ipads in the first week. So we just needed a pen, but we had supplies available for our use if we wanted the old-school flashcards, highlighters, etc. I say "given" because it will be a taxable benifit for...

Re: Applying for Air Traffic Service
sorry, dont know what courses are running in that area. does anyone else know of any upcoming course dates in YWG? if you dont mind waiting for up to a few years, I would delay the application so you can be sure you are ready to accept when the time comes. Then again, the training offer will most li...

I would not recommend it. You may decline a training offer, but there will be no guarantee that you will get a call again before your application expires.

Re: Spring YVR Course.
well they gave me 4 weeks notice for the VFR course, so the IFR course may not be filled until late march. 4 weeks prep is doable if you have an aviation background and there are no glitches with your security clearance. Here are some things you can start thinking about: - 3 references of present/pa...

Re: Spring YVR Course.
During my interview I was told they plan to do an IFR course in May and an FSS in the fall (and of course, VFR in February). They were also thinking about doing a second VFR course later in the year as well, but that was far from being decided at the time. (mid-January). Are you waiting for IFR?

Yes, they still use back check, they only call the references you give them.TheJudge wrote:They still use BackCheck to my knowledge, and I believe they only contacted the references I listed on the backcheck form.

I got my training offer in the mail and it says the course will be between 4-6.5 months (for VFR). Does anyone know what variables factor into a shorter or longer course?

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Thanks! I am really glad for my aviation background with this prep package. 4 weeks would be very difficult to get a good handle on this stuff from square one. If you have a copy of 'from the ground up" it wouldnt hurt to start studying before you get a training offer just in case.

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Just got the green light from the 2nd interview, but was placed in the FSS stream - so that's the end of the line for me. Best of luck to the rest of you in the process. You may already be aware of this, but after 3 years of FSS you are able to bid for training spots in IFR / VFR courses. Additiona...

I'm sure you have heard in the second interview but if you haven't or you are waiting in a pool...there is an IFR ...

Received and accepted an invitation to a testing session in YVR on Nov 14th, nearly 6 months after my online application. Anyone else? Yes, will be there! I applied January 20th, which was only a couple weeks after the last assessment. Been a bit of a wait, but it was entirely expected. Good luck! ...

On the non-airline side, there are still challenges that go with pilot experience etc. What about all the guys and gals in the bush fudging their experience in the 250-500 hr range? With the amount of jobs requiring 500 hours TT, the temptation to pull out a pen and think of four letters starting wi...

how about minnow trapping? glassy, tiny lakes, many with only 1 or 2 approaches. some lakes require curved or "J" take-offs. Flying very close to gross. not to mention when you get 'er on the water, if it is windy you got a hell of a hand full to get your traps.

Re: Australian regulators to allow cell phone use on flights
If people can use their cell phones on a plane, I want to be able to smoke on the plane again. Talk about annoying, that's all you need is 150 people talking on their bluedouche headsets for the entirety of the trip. I find the people who switch on their phones and start checking their emails befor...

I just was browsing PCC and noticed Stefophane put a note on the site saying they will now hire nationals only due to problems with getting work visas for the expats. I hope this doesnt affect you; I thoroughly enjoy watching your journey. Good luck!

From my dockhand job: "Has anyone ever fallen in the water?" "Have you ever dropped anyone's bag in the water?" "Is that a mid-air refueling nozzle?" (pointing to the pitot tube on Otter) I will say that one was amusing and a somewhat refreshing surprise after the usual guesses as to what it is. "Vi...

now, is it possible for a proper mag drop and still have lead deposits on spark plugs (say equal number of spark plugs per mag) to reduce available power on take-off?
