Ditto what Invertago said -- Thanks, Dan, for that little bit of inspiration in an industry that's been so negative lately.

Re: ANR Headsets

I've been using a pair of David Clark H10's since I've started flying, I always fly with sunglasses, and the performance is equal with or without glasses on -- if you can stand the weight, I'd recommend them for sure. However, I've tried the X11s and Bose X, and although they perform great and feel ...

That kit looks great, niss! Just a few things I would add: Duct Tape -- don't leave the house without it Toilet Paper -- no, not for the shitter (though you may want to use it for that...), but a couple of squares in a Ziploc bag, for starting a fire. I know, it's entirely possible to start one with...

Re: H.I.D. Landing/Taxi lights

I don't know, I'd be skeptical of any aircraft part I found on Ebay... And the $500/light comment, that's on the cheap side -- many others HID lights are up and around $1000, especially if you want STC approval. My view is in this industry, if you're not going to dish out the money to do it properly...

Re: Young pilots...

I disagree with the age thing too. I started flying, and soloed at the age of 14. To the original poster -- when I got my Rec Permit at 16, I had never been behind the wheel of a car -- and frankly, it's much safer being up there anyways (well, at least on Canada's roads). I say it's all about attit...

Re: What type of logbook do you use?

I'm aware that buying your first logbook is a big milestone in ''the pilot experience'', but a nice excel worksheet beats any paper logbook. No paperwork, no more scratches, automatic sums, no more ''wtf did I wrote here?'' Yes, but you see, all of the above build character, and I would want someth...

Re: Have your AME do a proper fuel gauge calibration check !

Right. After levelling off, you look at your GPS and see how long until you get to your destination. Then you look at the fuel totalizer to see how much time you have left in your tanks. This is not rocket science. Or, if you have a 430 and that unit, it will update the fuel flow page in real-time ...

Re: Have your AME do a proper fuel gauge calibration check !

Hmm, interesting. Did you ever find the source of the leak? Possibly a fuel cap that wasn't on properly? Good thing you decided to land and check it out -- far too many would have carried on.

Just wondering though -- why did you go with full on the right and 1/3 on the left, not 2/3 each?

Re: Help with exporting an airplane

Does not have to be an ideal world at all to get an airplane up to Canada for inspection, done it more than once and the economy was a lot better then. If you don't try or just assume they won't is not to a buyers advantage. Also dereggin an aircraft prior to export creates a lot of hassles. it wor...

Re: Help with exporting an airplane

Best to make a deal on CDN soil - have the A/C flown into Canada for actual cost, do an inspection and only then make an offer accordingly. THATS GOOD advice , same with the "export Cof A" waste , and remember ,,,a GOOD PPI is nearly equivalent to an annual inspection ,,,IF your not doing an inspec...

Re: Question About Utility of SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker

We've had one in the 182 for about 6 months now and use it on practically every flight, not to mention almost every other owner I know out at Springbank has one. For $150 it's good piece of mind, plus it's neat to track your flight when you get home. A couple of others are right in the 90% rule, tho...
