Re: more questions

If the 500 hour inspection was done according to the manual by a reputable shop, the mags were run up to operating RPM.

What kind of mags?

So no need for multiple pax, ratings or flying in the US. This says RPP. The bonus is needing only a class 4 medical. If he wants/needs the PPL at a later date, it will be a cheap upgrade with you teaching him for free.

Re: Applying for a Fabric LSTC

So you want to get a LSTC because you don't want to do the extra work of a certified covering system, but you still plan on remaking (not rebuilding) over half your airplane in the next few years? Something doesn't sound right with that. TC has effectively put the kibosh on converting certified to e...

I bet he pleads guilty at his first opportunity and gets a fine and suspension. As pointed out a TC record is forever, the criminal record (if any results) can be pardoned after a period of time. Sounds like you are assuming he wants to be a pilot as a career. A TC record has no effect on him renti...

Re: Beech A-23 w/ IO-346 ?

One of the reasons there is no STC, is that since the scaremongers have tanked the value of the aircraft, nobody wants to pay for an OH, much less a complete FWF. We've been sitting on a 0 TSOH io346 for years because the customer pulled a Houdini and nobody else wants it.

Re: What to expect Slick Magneto 500 hour

I personally prefer the slick mags because they are so user friendly in terms of internal and engine timing. THe bendix ones can be a bit tricky with the scale and such. At least with the scale you can set a Bendix to less then .5°. Using the Slick tool you'd be lucky to get it within 2-3° internal...

Re: What to expect Slick Magneto 500 hour

I would appreciate any comments on what can I expect would be most probably need to be done , (what wears out for sure, ) or minimally and max typical cost on slick 500 hour magneto inspection. Slick parts are stupidly expensive. Champion does that to force you to buy a new one from them vs. paying...

Re: Too late to apprentice?

If you haven't done anything aircraft related during that time, it will be a little tougher. The bigger problem is that the market is completely over-saturated with apprentices. There's at least 50 locals and 300 Canada wide applying for every job. I think Stevenson is putting out over 70 new appren...

Are there any additives that may help. CYOO only offers 100LL and Jet A1. Any other alternatives? I could always siphon from my car!! Some have had success adding Alcor TCP to 100LL. You could also try a 50/50 mix of 100LL and mogas. For a 150 this is as simple as bringing a couple of jerry cans wi...

By the time you add an extra flight test, pre-flight test evaluation, the extra time to get back in the groove of learning, going over things you've already been taught, it works out to be about $1k more.

Veterans remember the good old days and the young ones have been sold a high tech big $$$ caree...

I'd say it would be very difficult. They are basically signing away their careers if something goes wrong. They'd really have to know you well and be confident of your work. I've seen people who at first looked like natural mechanics turn out to be complete morons. Only a history with someone can gi...

If you can find an AME who is willing to sign off your work, no problem. There is also a list of elementary maintenance tasks that do not require an AME sign off, such as oil changes, tire swaps, etc.. If you don't mind your plane being restricted to Canada only, look into the Owner-Maintenance cate...

Re: Which school is better??? HARVS AIR or WINNIPEG AVIATION

My personal verdict is that at Harvs, I was a customer. At Winnipeg, I was a student. Well said. Harv's seems flashy, fast paced and impersonal. WA feels like you're learning from a friend. Both schools are good (well, with the exception of harv's at air cadets time). It all depends on your persona...
