Re: CADOR - controller error or pilot error?

I think NOTAM closed runways fall into a gray area of the CARs... Some years ago we had closed a runway by NOTAM due to runways conditions (ice) and the fact that there were operations in effect to remove the ice. Some smart guy in his Cherokee was adviced over the ATF that the runway was in fact cl...

Re: Flight level 23oh!

RSC. Being a frenchman, I can tell you why I think "as long as your point comes across". I really make a concius effort to use proper terminology to eliminate the accent side of things. However, when I use Tree (vice the real tHree) for 3, ATC often come back to me to confirm what I just said. Some...

Re: Practice Area Frequency

When I used to instruct in Ottawa, the practice area had a common frequency and despite the occasional incorrect position report made by a student, it helped a lot to keep us in non-conflicting areas. If the problem is that you think people are making too much noise on the radio or there are erroneo...

Re: Flight level 23oh!

Its amazing how we haven't all run into each other with such confusion Actually, it's happened. I'm not claiming to be the perfect radio operator, but the use of slang has in the past created assumptions being made by the receiver of the message causing confusion and loss of situational awareness a...

Re: Skies still unsafe 10 years after Swissair crash: Experts

b1ngnx33, you really have no class. Nearly 230 people paid their lives to teach the rest of us a lesson. We've learned that lesson through a very well thought out investigation process, yet we choose to ignore some of the more important methods to prevent a similar incident from happening in the fut...

Re: This just in; Air France off the end of the runway in YUL...

Hard to believe the investigation will find the crew at fault. The aircraft was pretty much abeam taxiway B2 but pointed in the opposite direction to the taxiway, facing right as opposed to left. Hopefully it was just a bad day for boeing/air france mtce dept or a mechanical fault. I bet it was bec...

Indeed, but it makes you wonder when your clearance is "You're cleared to Taif airport, inshallah" or "you're cleared to land, inshallah"

Re: Speaking French on the radio

But the international language for aviation is English, is it not? If it were something else, then I guess I'd have some extra learning to do. Last year I was flying in Spain, and many spoke Spanish on the radio. I had no idea what they were saying, however I could communicate with ATC in English. ...

The flight school I worked at used the AVCOMM 900s, and we had the no sound in one ear problem ALL-THE-TIME. There is a knob on each ear cup for individual volume of each ear when in Stereo mode, which is what you probably are in. It has to be switched to mono. To switch it, turn the knob on the cub...

How do you get it recertified? Return to the previous certifiers and have them re-certify. Bring your old log book and this will save them having to check it over again. Or bring it to a TC Authorized person (one at almost every flight school, or within TC itself) to certify the new logbook as a ce...

I used the common sense approach. If you are doing a x-country, or navigation practice (as in diversion), log it as X-country. The other way to look at it is if you have to pull out the map to not get lost, then it's probably x-country. If you're an experienced pilot that's taking a trip to an airpo...

I originally got my Group 3, because I wasn't about to fly a multi in the two years following. Then when it came time to renew, I did my Multi Rating, then simply did my IFR renewal in the Multi to get my Group 1. No extra training required. You simply get the group you did your flight test in, with...

Actually I believe that a Class D simulator can be logged as flight time. At least that's what the Transport guys say regarding their Citation Sim in Ottawa.

TD Student Line of Credit is how I did mine. While you are training, you only need to pay the interest, then you must start paying the loan after a 6 month grace period after finishing training. This is typically set up for university or college and is given to you in yearly increments of $8000, but...

The flight school is supposed to hold onto the PTR while you are training there. But as cyyz mentioned, just make sure you put every single flight into your log book imeediately after, and not only will you now have a copy of your flight training, but you'll save yourself a lot of work later on copy...
