Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
[*]Security ( the optics of, ) is making a group of people, very wealthy. It has matured into big business. I have signed the petition, I don't believe for one second it will do anything. The only way to get through to these people, is shut the country down for a day! As the saying goes; "organizing...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Spinner, I would love to know how these individuals managed to bypass the following CARs reg in order to access the cockpit. I just recently requested access to the flight deck on a fam flight and was denied. If you can find an exemption like CID did, please forward it to me or post it. Hi guys, I ...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Thanks for the comments guys. As much as I would like to say F,,ck it and just take my pop for a ride, the reality is that I probably would get fired if caught. There is a lot of talk on this board about professionalism and these are the times where one has to follow the rule of the law as much as o...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Well, like I said, I'll sign your petition. I still think it's a shame little boys (or girls I guess) can't go "visit the pilots". When I was a little boy going to the cockpit and being allowed to ask stupid questions for 5 minutes, I always thought that when I was one of those heroes in the front ...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
You can imagine what would happen: A plane would go down in a violent windshear scenario and the media would concentrate all their firepower on the fact the stupid door was open at the time of the crash. Meatservo I think you are missing the point of the petition and the lobby. It is not aimed at c...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Here's a reason for not allowing people in the cockpit of an airliner during revenue flights that has nothing to do with terrorism or CAR's. As an employer, or paying passenger, I would expect the pilots to be focused on their JOB of flying the airplane, not entertaining some snotty nose kid or old...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Swordfish, my apologies. I think I miss read your first comment. I though were suggesting family needed a RAIC. I re-read it and see that is not what you said. You suggest as long as they are friends and family of the crew with the RAIC then they should be allowed - to which I agree. My humble apolo...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
It is my fervent position that if you hold a red RAIC pass, you should be allowed in the jumpseat without any questions, providing it is cool with the crew. As for friends & family...only if they're the f&f of red pass holder flying. With only respect intended Swordfish, what special clearance does...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Side note to the ATC guys commenting on the jumpseat. I believe you actually do have clearance to request the jumpseat as a ride-along request with WestJet and Air Canada. I have had a couple of ATC guys in the last couple of years ride up front to observe. They had prior permission from our ops and...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
This is the process to follow if someone wants to recommend a regulatory change: ..... CD, Thanks for the info on CARAC. I am aware of this process and will be utilizing it as well. The intent is to also gather as much support for this issue as possible including the rapidly building support within...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
BTW, all young and budding pilots aspiring to go to the airlines someday should consider signing this petition too. It will impact you in the future in one way or another. If we don't fight this together, soon all of our ability to make choices in the flight deck will be gone. For every knee jerk th...

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
I wouldn't be so quick to call this a naive remark. While I do agree the Aeroflot accident was an extreme case, 75% of regulations and a great deal of procedures in AFM's are in place due to poor judgments and mistakes that have been made through out the history of aviation. But I fly helicopters.....

Re: Petition for Family Access to the Flight Deck
Yeah, that's the Aeroflot airbus that the capt's son brought down. I don't think it's too much to ask to just show the kiddies around while you're on the ground. Quite a naive remark. That accident was due to some extremely poor judgment and professionalism by one single captain out of many thousan...
