Re:
When I hit 6 out of 10 on my pucker factor scale. I either turn around, or start lookin for a good fish'n hole. And that's from hitting an 11 a few times and saying "well that was a real son of a bitch". I'm not gonna do that anymore. I think this sums it up perfectly. If you always keep the pucker...

Re: Gogal accident report
[quote="trey kule"] It distresses me a bit to read pilots talking about a little spray bottle of some kind of liquid or another....pressure, dilution, and temperature of the fluids are important, as well as using the correct fluid. I sometimes wonder how pilots pass the surface contamination course ...

Re: The most interesting pilot in the world
- He was born speaking the phonetic alphabet - He once flew Air Force One and the escort fighters at the same time - When he lands with a 10kt tailwind he still gets 10kt headwind landing performance - When he flies on AC Rouge he has lots of leg room! He is indeed... the most interesting pilot in t...

Re: First Air off course
It doesn't matter if you are flying VOR/ADF or have a moving map display with GPS in front of you as long as you:- - Understand the information displayed. - Understand how to use what you have correctly. - Understand what the limitations are. Increasing the complexity of your cockpit brings a whole...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
I meant no disrespect to the 37-200, but it does lack the modern technology that the rest of the world is using to increase safety and situational awareness for flight crews. You would think that this technology would/should be available for the crews that fly in the most challenging conditions. Ca...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
It's time to retire these old planes with Frankenstein cockpits or at least through a moving map in them. Hey TC, it's 2014. Get with the program!! The 727 and 737-200 were gravel capable. Newer Boeings are not. I don't think any Airbus aircraft are either. That leaves the BA-146 if you want anothe...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
If you GAF about this not happening again you'd spend money on newer technologies and prove it. Put INS or IRS in your planes, train people how to use it, and show me that you've learned from your mistaskes. TAWS is too expensive yet Alaskan bush operators have it in single engine Cessnas? Did the ...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
I don't propose to comment on the crew, CRM, SOP, 7F, or the TSB report. There's nothing to add to any of it. There are a couple of things that southerners may not know or understand about flying up here: 1. In the North, it is not uncommon to make downwind approaches on the ILS - particularly at Y...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
As long as we have companies that are just barely meeting the minimum TC standards and TC,s Smoke and Mirrors SMS, we will continue to have these preventable accidents time and time again.

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
The main take away should be the widespread requirement for SOPs that allow critical commands like go-arounds to be initiated by PF or PNF, and that they have mandatory responses with no option for anybody to ignore or override them, PIC included. I suspect most companies already adhere to these st...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
When this aircraft landed next to the runway at CYEG back in 2004, one of the findings was the crew not following company SOP's. People, we practice the go-around in the Sim for a reason!! Remember guys/gals, if the PF doesn't respond or take corrective action after the 3rd call, he/she is considere...

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 - Missing
Anybody remember the B727 that ditched 183 miles from Gander - it was being returned at the end of a lease from Malta - back to Peru - Sept 11 1990 - with 18 persons on board - flying from Iceland to Gander. It ran out of fuel, declared Mayday - and was never seen again - from what I recall - nobod...

Re: Accident in YRL Nov 10, 2013
There are many failures that this accident is "not inconsistent with." I'm guessing we'll have to exercise a little patience to find out what happened with this one. My sincere condolences to the families, friends and coworkers of the victims of this terrible accident. Well, with respect, no, there...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
Like everybody else on here, I'm eager to find out the cause. I'm sure the one thing that we can all agree on is that there was some sort of navigational error that caused an aircraft to fly an offset ILS into a hillside. Was it a switch problem? or was it some sort of internal aircraft system error...

Hey all,
I have an interview coming up and I'm wondering what are the most common CRM questions asked during interviews.
Thanks!

There goes 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back reading this post. This is the reason why I frequent this site less and less lately. If you look back over the years there have been a lot of grey haired pilots that have flown planes into the side of hills or off the end of runways and so on. We a...
