Went last year, this year --- chalk me up to the low $$. (and the fact I had to pay for last year by taking the wife on a cruise last month)

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
Also, don't get caught paying more to learn something, or learn in something you "MAY" be flying in. Learn in the most effective manner, both practically and cost, in the appropriate machine for what you are learning at that time and then train in what you will be flying once you actually know what ...

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
Fly the 152. It's cheaper, more fun and spins far better than the 172. I did all my PPL on a 152, then transitioned to a 172 when I had a licence and wanted to take people up with me. Only reason to train in a 172 is if you are too heavy for you and your instructor to put meaningful fuel in. I was l...

Re: Headset suggestion
+1 For DCs - bullet proof.
I have a set for each family member - I highly recommend searching EBay for what you require. With some patience, I paid no more than 50% of retail, for product that has worked to spec (just a few cosmetic scratches). Even got an ANR version for < $300.

Re: Any Colour Blind Commercial Pilots?
BTW - You can do the Farnsworth D-15 at your local optometrist, get him to send in a report and that is acceptable. No need to go through Transport (if you don't want to). Me - Cannot see anything on the Ishihara (even the plates that only colour blind people can see) - Have aced the D-15 several ti...

Re: ATF Procedures
Tried to post this yesterday, but somehow it got lost... As VFR Pilot, flying into an ATF airfield, how am I supposed to know there is IFR traffic around? Take CZBA for example, as I had an interesting encounter with a King Air there a couple of years ago. 1) Consulting the CFS, there is nothing on ...

Re: ATF Procedures
My view is, if you're burdening other pilots by being NORDO in an airspace that has frequent IFR traffic it's on you to make sure you're eyes outside. All the time. And making course adjustments as needed. The IFR traffic has no idea you're even there unless he sees you. And we all know how hard it...

Re: Two fatal near Parry Sound
TSB website reports it as a Cessna 182. Richmond Hill, Ontario, 10 November 2015 - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators to the site of an accident involving a Cessna 182 near the Parry Sound airport, Ontario. The TSB will gather information and assess ...

Re: Online Ground school VS Traditional.....Do employers car
How does an employer even find out how you did groundschool? TC has my PTR, the info in it does not appear online anywhere, or on any of my documents. Don't overthink this, just learn the best way you can and get your license. That is something the do require, and can verify!

Re: Feet on the floor or on the rudders
Flying upside down, you got it co-joe. If I've understood the gist of the 2 threads on this topic: If you're a Pilot flying an airplane with your hands and feet, have them on the pedals where they belong. If you're one of those "pilots" whose airplane is taking you along for a ride, have your heels...

Re: 12 years since the Toronto blackout
Me - was picking up in-laws at Pearson. Was late, running very low on gas. Decided to fill up after I picked them up. met them, put them in car, drove out of airport into gas station directly over the street. Filled up, paid, and as I was pulling out onto Airport Road noticed the lights were out. Sp...

Re: PPL written exam
Do the practice exams, study your weak areas and repeat. I also used the PPL exam answer guide, gave me another 1000 or so practice questions, and a full practice exam. Got my recommend, then realised that it was only valid for a limited time. Wrote exam, before I felt I was ready, got 98% - dropped...

Good point - the actual statement in the reference I used was "no tendency to rotate" - ie you have to force it to.photofly wrote:Minor point: point 2) above (correctly) implies no roll acceleration, not zero rotation. A steady roll rate is still an equilibrium situation. It's a roll acceleration that isn't.

Re: Equilibrium
Google . This whole discussion comes down to basic definitions. For a body to be in equilibrium, 2 conditions needs to be satisfied: 1) The vector sum of all forces acting on the body must zero 2) The sum of all torques acting on the body, with respect to any axis, must be zero. 1 says there is no a...

Reminds me of a unit test I set for my Cadets, which for fun I set every answer to 'B'. amazing how uncomfortable it made them feel - and how many right answers were changed because they could not believe another B answer. Fun with Patterns.
