Re: PICUS
I logged it in the co-pilot column, as you are co-pilot and not signing the logbook. And just made a note in the remarks column that it was PICUS. Now if you are using a log book application like LogTen Pro which i switched to in May, it allows you to record it as PICUS and allows you to generate re...

Have a read of this and tell me if you think they will even be able to enforce it if Canada's Supreme Court says they can't? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/workplace-random-alcohol-tests-rejected-by-top-court-1.1340382 Granted there are 3 exceptions being: Where there are reasonable gro...

Re: Faa instructor in Canada.
I would simply suggest you look for a school at bellingham just across the border to do the instrument training. It's going to be a lot easier, besides if you do the training in Canada you are going to be subject to our laws and restrictions which may not be the same, so you're going to have to lear...

Re: TC to FAA license validation versus full conversion
In order to rent down there you will need an FAA (PPL) or higher license. I have a converted PPL and am now in the process of converting my ATPL. so the answer is you can do as many conversions as you want to CPL/ATPL etc.. The conversion process is pretty simple and explained online on the FAA Airm...

Re: TC ATPL to FAA ATP Conversion - ACTION NEEDED
I would suggest you do a little research with a FSDO. I spent the afternoon (today) with an Inspector, and the new 60 Question ATPL Mulitengine (ACM) conversion exam is available now so the process remains the same as before the change in August. He happened to be a fellow DC3 driver so we got along...

Re: CYXX RNAV(GNSS) Z Approach
WAAS has nothing to do with this approach.. It is not an LPV approach.. Any IFR Approach certified GPS could do this approach.. What is more likely I suspect is that NavCanada has not Flight Checked the Approach, which is strange that they wouldn't but then having a Challenger come out to check one ...

I have flaps on my pockets and don't have any problems, but then in 2010 on the way back from antarctica I had a phone come out of my pocket on the wing of a DC3T and drop into the wing right beside the open tank.:) I thought it was a gonner, but they guys in Calgary de-riveted a couple lines and ou...

Re: 705 exams
Liquid, I am pretty sure if you talk to your POI that you have to write the 704 CP exam, and do the interview as you suggest.. I know all the 705 CP's at a certain northern operator, and there have been 3 of them in the past 2 years, all had to do the 704 Exam, and the interview.

Re: 705 exams
I believe you have to do the 704 CP Exam with TC for 704 or 705 CP position, plus you have to complete an in person interview for 705.. I seem to remember an ex-chief having to go through this to act as Temporary CP..

Re: Dash-8 question
Yeah I have heard that as well, and while I don't fly the 400, I understand the #2 SPU has been or will be removed in favor of the use of the PTU as a backup for the #2 system. It is my understanding that Q400 operators, if they choose, will be able to taxi on one engine very soon. Meaning there wil...

Re: Dash-8 question
Lets say for instance you were taxiing with #1 Shutdown and had an #2 AC Generator Failure, you lose the #1 SPU (Hydraulic Standby Pump), and there by lose all the #1 Systems.. Not so much of a problem for the Flaps, Inboard Spoilers, Lower Rudder Actuator, and the PTU, but what about the Antiskid /...

Re: CAR's 705 ?
Try the Standards.. 725.113 Validity Period It's not everything you wanted, or explains everything, but for the most part most operators are 6 months recurring PPC's unless they are approved to do training and then a LOFT in lieu of a PPC.... Right now, I do a PPC every 6 months on a Dash 7....

Re: Licence Validity
Bpf So you write the inrat and pass your initial ride, you have an instrument rating for 24 months subject to currency requirements. If you let it expire and don't renew within 24 months of your initial expiry ( a total of 48 months or greater) as I think you are saying, you have to write the inrat ...

Re: Licence Validity
It's not as simple as just doing a class 1 medical and your atpl is valid again.. If your instrument rating has been expired for less than 24 months, you will also need a group 1 renewal, if its more than 24 months I believe the regs require you to re-write the inrat exam and do a group one ride in ...

Re: Max. Commercial Flight Times
Just to be clear its a consecutive 30 day period, not a month, there's a big difference.. Everything in transports world revolves around consecutive days. So you can fly 120 hours in any 30 consecutive days, 300 in 90, and 1200, in 365. Oh and for resetting your times, you can do it only 6 times in ...

How much more does that fuel you burn in that extra 344 NM Cost you in YYR versus the cost in Kef for fuel.. Just a thought.. This is what I'm asking. Is fuel more expensive in Vancouver than Iceland. Maybe buy less there and stop sooner where it is less expensive. Another option though for sure fa...

Wouldn't it be cheaper to set up a base in Canada or Newfoundland for this stop? The now-defunct Astraeus Airlines used to fly to Deer Lake direct from London with the 737-700. Stanstead I think they were out of, wasn't Heathrow. OP is trying to go from Calgary or Vancouver to the UK. I'm thinking ...

Re: ATPL Sign-off
It all depends how you start in aviation. If your first job is right seat on a 703/704 operator that requires 2 crew in their COM and you have the 250 PIC, the earliest you could expect the upgrade would be around 2750 Hours (1/2 of the 2500, plus your 250) or if you did some glider towing or Pic in...

Re: Fractional Ownership - how does it normally work?
Don't rule out fractional ownership. I was a part of a fractional group at ZBB in a Cherokee and my experience was fantastic. I basically bought a share in a corporation and the asset of the corporation was the aircraft. It cost me an up front capital payment then the monthly fees covered annual ins...

Re: Can an initial IFR rating be combined with a PPC?
A better question is why would a company hire someone without a Valid Group 1, that operates in that environment? JC, have we ever hired guys without a Valid or Expired Group 1 that could be renewed by a PPC?
