Re: Overdue Cargo Airplane Bound for CYXS
Metros have a Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer similar to that of the Alaska Airlines MD-83 that crashed off the coast of San Francisco in 2000. About a year or two after that accident, a Carson AME was using a push broom to brush a light dusting of snow off of a Metro that spent the night in YLW. Af...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
Good post Ahramin. I wasn't aware that jumpseaters could not check in online. This seems strange to me. I'll do a little digging on my end to see what the rationale is behind that and see if it is possible to work towards having that changed. It's been a while since I've been turned away because of ...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
And the award for most ignorant post on the internet goes to... So, what you're saying is that because it is possible to take an Air Canada jumpseat to say, Tel Aviv, then it is acceptable to expect pilots to spend anywhere from 3 hours to 3 days trying to get through to book a jumpseat? WestJet has...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
Thanks for the input Splash. WestJet has been a part of myIDtravel for several years now. Unfortunately, AC is not on our list for ID travel nor does it offer any option to list for reciprocal jumpseats on any carrier. I like your way of thinking though.

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
There is nothing reciprocal about the AC reciprocal jumpseat. I'm sure if I kept a tab I'd find that I have wasted weeks of my life listening to busy signals, waiting on hold, getting disconnected, redialing, etc. Then, if by some miracle, I do manage to get myself listed, I've been turned away at t...

How long to left seat?
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on how many years of seniority it currently takes to hold the left seat on the A319/320/321 fleet in both YVR and YYZ at mainline. How does this compare at Rouge?
Also, what are the average number of days worked per month on this fleet?

Re: 10 year agreement with pilots
Firstly, the details of your TA are widely available within WestJet circles whether they are posted on AvCanada or not. Secondly, we appreciate being able to access this forum and hear your views & opinions on this topic. It seems, so far, like a groundbreaking step in the right direction for you gu...

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
With regards to flow-through at WestJet: IMO it no longer carries quite the same incentive that it once did since the formation of the new bases. The position at Encore is essentially uncommutable and would require moving to YYC on your own dime. With any flow-through that occurs, all new positions ...

Re: Westjet Tech Ops needs a union!!!!!!!
Well... a one-off, anonymous post on a public forum is sure to rally the troops and get you that union you deserve. Better yet, I'm sure it will win over the hearts & minds of our management team and make them come to their senses. If you truly have concerns, there are far better avenues by which to...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Jonny, while I do agree with your assessment of Aviator's posts as "douchebag-ish" he & brickhead are hinting at something that has been worrying me for a while. While you may have reached the pinnacle of your career here at westjet, I, as a first officer, haven't quite reached it. I love my job & I...

Re: Mayan Rivera incident
There have been some negative comments in the press with regards to how the situation was handled & the relay information to the affected families; however, the criticisms have been of the resort management and of the Mexican authorities. As I understand it, WestJet has had just as much difficulty w...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Judging by Westbeach's past posts, he's not a pilot - at least not for WestJet.
Not sure where his hostility comes from but he certainly has a history of berating his fellow Avcanada posters.

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Johnny, sounds like you've been around the block a bit & you do have some very good points. One thing I've really noticed in my time here is the way that other WJers jump all over anyone who speaks out or shows any opposition to the directions the company is being taken. I agree with you: protect th...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Westbeach ... wow.
Re-read my posts please. I didn't think they were "over the top" negative comments when I was writing them, maybe I'm wrong. That certainly wasn't my intent anyways. Nice response though - way to keep it as a professional debate.
And I'm the one who slipped through the cracks?

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
I'm not too worried about my own personal "career progression". More concerned about what it may do to morale. For what its worth, I wouldn't exactly say that I'm "stomping my feet" either, as you so eloquently put it. Just trying to be cautious about how this may affect culture in the future. Time ...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Ya pretty tough place. I've semi retired too! Easy comment to make when you're already sitting in the left seat, halfway up the captain's payscale. Retirements were figured into our expansion plans long ago, delaying airplanes and replacing them with a larger capacity one being crewed from outside ...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Only gripe I have with this is that we are Wet Leasing in a year in which we are deferring an A/C delivery. I know it sounds short sighted and self-fish but thats how I feel about it. Skyhigh, I'm with you. We're delaying our own deliveries only to take on a larger aircraft with more capacity - whi...

Raven, don't you have anything better to do with your time than cut, paste, and re-post random negative comments from an air traveler's forum? Look hard enough and you'll find that there's always someone out there with something negative to say about someone - just ask Tiger. Show a little more prof...
