Re: PTR for CPL Training
Make sure that you AND your instructor review the requirements for the licence (Course Outline and CARS) and that the appropriate types of flights are in the PTR. I just finished reviewing a CPL PTR and found that the candidate was 5 hours short of instrument training. Also keep in mind the solo cro...

Re: Weather decision
Redwing You made a decision based on the available information. Sounds like you considered all the relevant factors; namely the pilot, weather and aircraft and how they fit into the intended flight. Making these types of decisions are going to be a life long learning experinece. Many of them are goi...

Re: Civil Aviation Medicine/ Canada
I've heard about having two doctors. Contrary to popular opinion your "civvy" doctor is obligated to report any condition to Transport Canada that would affect your medical. So you're not out of the woods. In any event, if you DO have a medical condition that COULD affect your medical, it would be n...

Re: TC's definition of X-Country?
Under the old ANO's the cross country definition was beyond 25 nm. Unfortunatley, that definition did not transfer over to the CARS. That being said, 25nm is a good rule of thumb. As for the Quebec region not accepting touch and goes. The requirement for separate legs on the cross country is in the ...

Re: New student procedures
Flight instructors are notorious for under valuing their work. My CFI would pull out what little hair he had left when we failed to charge for ground briefings. This was likely from the feeling of empathy towards the students. We all remember how expensive it was, so in the interest of a brotherly b...

Re: North Cariboo Update
The question that begs to be asked is what was happening in the industry that provided Contrails with such an influential role in safety monitoring? Nothing has prevented "industry" from taking the lead and policing itself through it's own lobbying associations. They have been sadly silent and as na...

Re: Padding Logbook Results In One Year Licence Suspension
Clunck, There was a recent survey taken of university business students that revealed that most felt that it was OK to cheat on assignments and exams. Is it any wonder that we're in a financial melt down? That and we seem to glorify lying and cheating in the orgy of reality TV. Great! 2 hours to my ...

Re: Padding Logbook Results In One Year Licence Suspension
Having spent a few years as an authorized person and later a licencing inspector I was constantly amazed at the willful fraud in licence applications. From the humurous logging of "passenger" time in a B737 to co-pilot time in single pilot aircraft, it never ended. Simply applying the smell test to ...

Re: PTRs
Sky Wings in Red Deer was using an Excel PTR a few years ago. I don't recall if it had any viable space for comments by the instructor. Depending on the number of terminals available it might be more of a hassel than a help at the end of the day.
