Re: My experience with the TSA
Honestly people, chill out about the TSA already. :P Exactly. For those who know how to travel security is a breeze. It is the people who claim they "had no idea" they couldn't bring liquids, etc on a plane (how many years has this been around for) that are holding up the process. All that hype abo...

Re: How to get Transport to stop sending you bills for $55
Oh Transport. You pay $100 for your medical, the doc signs your book, and somehow Transport needs to charge a fee for doing something. Not so sure what it is..... My other favorite part is how every invoice I get from them has "Final Notice" stamped on it, even though I never received the initial no...

They all have "pilot" under their employment pages right now, that is a much better sign than 5 months ago.

When to move on
Looking to see what others have to say/have done in their careers in terms of switching carriers. You have a job with a 703/704 carrier, when is it time to move on and jump over to a smaller 705 carrier to start logging time there? Do you hang around until you have the pic hours to do your A's, then...

Re: number crunching for the sake of our environment reputat
Another bit of math to try for fun. Imagine we all have electric or Hydrogen powered cars/trucks. Now we need to charge them or produce the Hydrogen somehow. Problem - Compute the change in Canada's electricity generating infrastructure required to replace every litre of oil used by Canada with eit...

number crunching for the sake of our environment reputation
For the sake of argument against an article I just read stating how bad aviation is for the environment and how it keeps getting worse I have been crunching some numbers. Numbers to be used: ERJ190. Range of 4260km, Max fuel of 28 600lbs, 94 pass. With all those being known. The ERJ's fuel burn woul...

Re: Force Air Canada to live up to language laws: Watchdog
It is complete nonsense to go on about this whole language thing any further. We all know in 20 years french and english will be the minority of mother tongue languages in this country, Almost every aircraft now has in-flight entertainment screens on seat backs. All though my new touchscreen phone h...

Re: Question
Something wrong with the ILS to 250'? I didn't think RNP limits would be that low. As for always seeing AC/Jazz cancelled and WJ getting in, I'm calling BS, why do people exaggerate to make a point. While you're visiting your family are you standing there at the airport watching the screen, are you...

Out of Kelowna I always suggest Westjet. Family is there and I am always seeing Canceled, delayed across Jazz there during bad weather days. Westjet always seems to get in (RNP approaches I assume?)

Re: Watch your fuel!!
I had to look.... POH152.. Range at 75% power (which was most likely being used) is 350nm (leaned mixture etc).
Line distance between the two is 308nm. That line takes you over the upper portion of Lake Superior. If this pilot was following rules, he/she would have had to go around (Add more miles).

Thanks for all the info you two.
I had no intention of "sneaking around" but I was playing with the idea of an instructor rating. I had received two very different explanations from two sources and just wanted to clarify it.

Duty time - Multiple ops
After reading through all the CARs Part VII, all the statements in regards to duty time are worded "flight conducted under subpart ____" and speak of one operation. If you were employed as a pilot with ABC123 airline, and wanted to instruct on your days off at 123ABC flight school, are there any leg...

Re: The beginning of the end for ILS?
I see GPS/RNP (or whatever else we are calling it) used primarily in area nav in high airspace, and terminal areas to reduce carbon footprints. The point of RNP is to reduce the lateral limits of the approaches from 2nm in En Route-> .3nm Approach-> to .1nm Terminal thus giving "precision like guid...

What happens if the GPS system goes down and there is no land-based backup? There is too much risk in putting our trust ...
