Re: Electronics allowed on entire flight

Well as of today Westjet flight ops has BANNED the use of electronic devices in the flight deck for other than operational or emergency use. Yes you can still read magazines or the newspaper but it has to be paper based!!!! Nope this isn't a joke.

Re: WestJet Pension Planning

A lot of us do sell our vested Westjet shares fairly regularly (majority I talk to seem to do it every quarter). You can do it monthly if you need the funds so its up to you. As for investing the funds, it doesnt have to be complicated. I use Index Investing. Its a very passive, hands off approach t...

Re: Bases Opened ..Your Feelings About The Pairings???

There is only one YYC overnight. With only 60+ 4 and 5 day pairings in YYZ, it's down to a numbers game of tug and war with a fellow commuter. One month may be decent but I think more months will reveal a tougher Sked for commuting with the sheer number of single days there.

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

You bring up the LaGuardia situation and realistically the company must have had a very valid reason for termination. Conspiracy theorists always bring in "one of" events to validate their arguments. Show this in a broader trend (ie. the criminalization of aviation accidents in Europe) and we can h...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

Bede one can use that same thought, change the content and voila....."I find the change to the paid moves for the YYZ upgrades to the 200 number an attempt to have votes swayed" What company are you working for? I don't think it's the same one as I am. This is another example of the company steppin...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

Hey Skyhigh, On WestNet, see the Civil and Criminal Coverage for WestJetters. Just type in Civil coverage in the WestNet search bar. It's the first document returned. I probably shouldn't cut and paste it on a public forum, but our insurance policy covers us for all civil claims as I explained earl...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

However, there is absolutely no evidence that the company is going to unilaterally implement something and I find the assertion to be little more than fear-mongering in an attempt to have card signed. Bede one can use that same thought, change the content and voila....."I find the change to the pai...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

Bede thanks for your insightful response. if an employee is fired BEFORE the lawsuit is named, then the insurance company will have no legal responsibility to defend you in court. Have you ever noticed that whenever someone asks Small industry here folks. Being clever by trying only initials is stil...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

Kinda like how Southwest had it in its interest to defend its pilots until one of them put the nose gear down first at La Guardia in July and is now fired and forced to defend his own lawsuits? For his sake I hope SWAPA has its own independent legal.

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

A big reason of why I am a proponent for certification is the separate Legal Representation thats needed in case the worse should happen. No one starts out their pairing thinking that anything bad will happen but the reality is it only takes one to ruin your whole day. We live in such a litigious so...

Re: Jazz vs. WestJet comparison: 1 year later

I sell 2 sets of stock every 3 months. Each of them worth $3800 this year. So one set of $3800 goes for monthly "stuff" and the other $3800 goes to RRSP. I usually top up my rrsp to max it out which doesnt take much. Next year that number goes up and after the Captain upgrade its a pretty substantia...

Re: Jazz vs. WestJet comparison: 1 year later

My average has been closer to 14 days worked per month. Of course it really depends on how you bid with the high credit stuff. With flica you can tweak your sked so you can average 12-13 days if you wanted to. Just gotta put a little work into it. Been at WJ for 4 years now and I take home $1700 ave...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?

Only gripe I have with this is that we are Wet Leasing in a year in which we are deferring an A/C delivery. I know it sounds short sighted and self-fish but thats how I feel about it.

If we cannot get the short gate, can we not request a visual approach (in vmc of course) and then set an intercept course to the RNP FAF and fly it that way?
