looking at a Stinson, wondering if anyone has ever brought a plane back from the owner maintenance class? everyone knows the engine, prop and flight instruments have to be overhauled, aircraft inspected etc. just wondering if anyone has actually done it. not looking for people to chime in saying oh ...

Re: dump my AMO??
most people do write their own MPM's, most people revise their own MPM'S, this is for a small AMO. I started an AMO within the last few months, did everything myself, I started the process with transport in September and was approved and running in December. My PMI told me that it usually goes faste...

Re: dump my AMO??
1-3 person AMO the fee is $300 with TC, over 3 its $1200 how long depends on how well you can write your manual, but once you have wrote your manual your PRM interview is a breeze because you know your manual inside and out. an AME with a good understanding of the cars should be able to write a MPM ...

Re: dump my AMO??
an AMO isn't worth much unless it is coming with tooling, or building etc. the cost of opening an AMO with regards to transport Canada is very cheap for a small AMO the process can be very quick and is usually completed within 60 days of submitting your MPM. the major costs of opening an AMO is the ...

Re: Floats to skis. Covered under cars 625?
if the aircraft was already in landplane config, than you can remove the wheels and install skis if you don't open any hydraulic lines. you can not complete a change over from seaplane to landplane configurations or complete a change over from landplane to seaplane configurations. I have heard of pe...

Re: C-208B start temp
Don't over think it! Sounds like the brushes are worn. Upgrading the SG will only make a difference because it will come with new brushes. From my experience the 200SGL119Q likes to do strange things even with half life brushes. It's probably why they don't allow field replacement of the brushes, o...

or a new hot section installed?
new FCU installed?

Re: C-208B start temp
if you upgrade to the 300 S/G and your maintenance team has not been around one than they need to watch the cooling fan on the starter gen, they are notorious for coming loose, they should be checked at least every brush check, also the extra cooling duct that gets installed on the nose gear spring ...

Re: C-208B start temp
You are a commercial operator. Snag it in the log and have an engineer look at it, could be a multitude of things. But you wouldn't want to be inconvenienced with silly things like actual maintenance. Maybe it'll make the next hundred? Maybe you'll torch the engine? Raise the bar for once instead o...

Re: Owner qualified?
I have some aircraft that need to have almost every fastener torque sealed. others don't need any. this way I can tell what has been touched. another issue with owners and pilots tinkering is, if I have mechanic, ame or apprentice do a job and it gets done correctly, now the owner takes the plane an...

Re: Annual inspection taking a really long time - options?
you missed the point, pilots cant change tubes, I CAN. Don't be ridiculous. Of course owners can change tubes, and authorize anyone else to do it for them (it doesn't have to be a pilot). No they can't; it's not on the list of elementary work. Nor is removing the split pin to take the wheel nut off...

Re: Annual inspection taking a really long time - options?
I'm not very bright, and I don't know very much about aviation, but if you do the following during BEFORE your annual inspection: - go to the TC website and print off your current AD's, mark any applicable repetitive ones from the past, check any new ones for applicability, and make sure technical ...

Re: Annual inspection taking a really long time - options?
Go owner maintenance than you can finish the inspection yourself! Take it to an amo and get it done in a reasonable time frame. Find a reputable AME to do it, don't just look for the guy who is gonna let you help to keep the cost down. When it come to this if the owner wants to help they should be d...

Re: Skydive caravan
So you have flown a caravan and yes you are right it is not a straight pull back to move the condition lever to cut off. BUT this is still a known issue with the caravan even if you don't think it is. Cessna came out with a Service Bulletin to add a stop tab to "reduce the potential of inadvertent ...

Re: Skydive caravan
Okay, the whole pulling the condition lever rather than flaps problem with the caravan is bullshit. Anyone who's flown a caravan knows it's not a straight pull back, move it to the left then slide down. You're heads got to be at least half way up your ass to not notice what you're doing Some of the...

number of aircraft per AME?
i am just wondering what the AME to aircraft ratio is other places, and how many hours the aircraft fly.
i am obviously not talking about 747's, just smaller operations.

Re: Journey Log and Amateur-Built Category
The journey log is only required to be kept for one year. but you do have to have a set of tech logs back to the first flight. you could always take the times from the tech logs 1 year ago then start a new journey log from there and transcribe the times into your new journey log. if there are no tec...

the overhaul manual states nothing about the locking nuts or any other kind of locking device.
but as per TCM SB96-7C there are nuts that are required to be replaced at overhaul with a new PN.
