Re: Forward Slip
Let's make this simple: I like simple and your bang on.Your going places young man :) Or, you have already arrived :prayer: So you want to make a slipping turn from left base to final but the wind is blowing from the right, so does this mean you go right wing down before the left turn because that ...

Re: Forward Slip
Let's make this simple: A sideslip is really just used to counteract a crosswind during landing. That's it. Bank into wind as necessary to counteract drift and apply opposite rudder to maintain longitudinal control (i.e. nose straight down the runway). Every single landing with any amount of crosswi...

Re: No-Expiry IFR?
Yep, this'll be helpful all right, where checking is essentially done away with. I know folks that go with the 4 year thing. I also know folks that do the 2 year thing as well. I've done rides on them. Mostly, they stink and I don't want them in my airspace under IFR control. Usually they either ca...

Re: No-Expiry IFR?
I hope so. I currently fly 121 in the US. There is no expiry on the instrument. ATP = your IFR is good as long as you do your 6/6 in six thingy. I think it's ridiculous that all my RVSM time in the US, Canada, and Mexico counts as nothing towards keeping my Group 1 current. There's full reciprocity ...

Re: No-Expiry IFR?
What about the 4-year requirement? Curerntly, if you don't renew within 4 years, your instrument totally expires and you must rewrite the INRAT. Is that changing too?

Re: Actual IMC Log
Honestly? Nobody really cares. In the early stages, your Actual should hopefully sit around 10% of your TT. If it's significantly more, those looking at your resume will think you're lying. If it's significantly below 10%, they will think you're under-qualified. Once you get to RVSM, it's all a load...

Re: Northwest A320 overflies destination by 150 miles . . .
SKETR 3 arrival into MSP. The final track is 071. The AP on the E175 goes into Roll mode when it runs out of track, and keeps on trucking wings level. I assume the 320 would do the same. I'm surprised theirs didn't make the turn to 120, though, since it's the last part of the arrival.

The second one is not allowed. What is allowed is if you say "Mind if you take control while I study the overhead panel for a while?" No, it's allowed. Controlled Rest on the Flight Deck 700.23 An air operator may institute a program of controlled rest on the flight deck if (a) The program is autho...

Re: Northwest A320 overflies destination by 150 miles . . .
If these guys were using latops as they say and its proven, ill eat your E6b with a nice chianti It won't ever be proven because the 320 CVR only records 30 minutes. Exactly Doc. Now we will have all this stupid rules about electronics on the flight deck. As long as one person is manning the aircra...

Re: Northwest A320 overflies destination by 150 miles . . .
Well sure, this does, fire them. There's plenty of other pilots out there. Of course Northwest will be throwing out two pilots with 20000 and 10000 hours of experience that previously did not have any blemishes on their record, but I'm sure their replacements will be perfect. The FAA taking their l...

In its primary role? The A10 would be the best shit show you ever saw. Close air support at 200 AGL doing 350kts. How can you possibly beat it? Besides that, the P51, ME109, SuperConnie or (hate to say it, and Cat please ignore this, but) the PBY looks pretty cool too. Most fun in a hull I've flown:...

Re: Best headset for flight training??
Now, I'm not condoning listening to music in flight...that would be illegal really? Nope. At worse it could tickle 602.01. Ever heard of built-in XM radio in the newer planes on the market? Sorry, I'm running 121 ops, equivalent to 705. Not sure what your FOM tells you... I'd like to give a try to ...

Landed the 175 on 4R in MDW today. 74000lbs, wind 010/6kts, flap full. Greased it, and got off at 13L. 3200 feet. Don't land long. Instead, aim for the earliest plausible turnoff, and hone your skills. Look in your POH, and see what the published performance is for your weight/environment/config. If...

One last thing, and probably the biggest advantage of LS (especially the Zulu) set over Bose: The ability to plug your Ipod in and listen to tunes during a 3.5 hour run from, say, Detroit to San Antonio is invaluable. All LS systems (well, at least the 3g, Mach 1, and Zulu models) are equipped with ...

Actually we do, about 70%+ of the time. Depends on Wx, runway condition etc. A neat little button called the "Reduced NP" is pressed and the props will automatically go max on, among other reasons, the GA button being pressed, weight on wheels aka touchdown etc. Cuts the approach noise signature fo...

Re: Seneca College Baron Gear Up Landing
High lighting a check item that is applicable to a specific airplane and making it seem to be the one and only way to do it is giving flawed advice. What other way would you do it IN A BARON ? Because the only other way I can think of is "Landing Gear - UP, NO GREEN", and I'm pretty sure that's not...

THE FINAL ITEM ON THE FINAL LANDING CHECKLIST IS "LANDING GEAR - DOWN THREE GREEN". There is a final check for the gear. It's called the Final Landing Check. I pointed this out earlier, but everyone jumped on the fact that it calls for Props max. THE FINAL ITEM ON THE FINAL LANDING CHECKLIST IS " LANDING GEAR - DOWN THREE GREEN ". The purpose of a checklist is to ensure that nothin...
