Re: Flight Schools near Vancouver
SkyQuest Aviation in Langley ran a great program when I was there. It has been a few years, but the CFI knew his stuff and the planes were always kept in good shape.

As was mentioned, you can file a no alternate IFR flight plan. However, you need Ops Spec 83 to be approved on your OC. Here is the link to the wording:

You can also check out SkyService, Air Partners (Aircraft Works is the AMO I believe) and AirSprint. All have bases in Calgary.

Have heard that West Wind has bought out Transwest. Any truth to this rumour? Any pilot layoffs as a result of the merger if it has happened?

Morning Kenton, Good for you for asking the questions before jumping in. I was in the same boat when I transitioned to aviation. I was 30 yrs old with a family and a full time job. I went the instructor route because it gave me an opportunity to build hours working part time while still keeping my r...

Re: Brake Pressure .................. Check

On the Cessna jets, a brake check IS in the Cessna checklist. I don't believe this holds true though for t...

Re: Suncor flight dept shutting down?
What I have been hearing is that the Suncor flt dept is not shutting down. Suncor appears to be consolidating all of their subcharter work with one company...namely WestJet. All of the smaller carriers they have been using will now be replaced with one carrier.

Re: Montair / No pay?
I am not sure qualifications you have, but why not look at Orca? They seem to hire lots of low timers as direct entry FO's on the HO, fly lots of hours each month and they actually pay their employees (not much maybe, but at least regularly!). I have never worked for Orca personally, but have a coup...

If the aircraft you are flying is certified single pilot (e.g. the King Air 200), the Captain does not require an ATPL nor does the First Officer require an IATRA.
