Re: Westjet mechs unionizing
+1 Its really the norm in canada, right??? AME's are thrown into anything that other's refuse or are performing poorly at irrespective of how far removed the task are from theit original job descriptions. I learned years ago not to bring up what were obvious dereliction of duties by rampies/ground ...

Re: Sharing a plane experience
Good experience here with six people sharing. Trick is have any potential what ifs covered in the written agreement before starting and stick to partners you know and trust. Scheduling hasn't been an issue yet, we have a group calendar and you put your name down for dates and times on first come fir...

a $100 a day perdium is given with the AME expected to cover their accomodation and transportation. Im speaking about contracting. Its a complete bloody joke but I know there are twats taking it. Seriously? I'd love to know where they're finding a hotel, supper and a ride for $100. Where I work the...

Re: Looking for info on AirNorth
Schedule Depends on department. Ramp does a lot of 4 on 4 off, maintenance is mostly 7 on 7 off, flight attendants bid on things. Management/pilot relations Individual results vary, always going to be some individuals that don't get along for whatever reasons but that's all departments, for the mos...

1.What is it like, to work at Voyageur ? No idea on that one. 2. Is this a good offer for a start ? I don't personally know anyone working ACA for less than $40/hour. Maybe it's different in that neck of the woods, but $30/hour to sign out airplanes in 2022 sounds like not nearly enough. 3. How muc...

Class 1 driver license for gap filling here as well. License wasn't super hard or overly expensive to get and I'm not sure I've ever looked at a job board and not seen something a person could use a class 1 to qualify for, and many of them are also interested in part time or on call to fill gaps and...

Based on my experience and what I've been hearing from others these days in Canada ACA at an airline $40-something an hour seems to be about the normal range.

Re: Payment for travel
My understanding is using a PPL to get to work is perfectly fine as long as you're just getting to and from work and not actually working with the airplane, and any compensation you receive for the flying doesn't exceed your operating costs.

Re: Owning and Operating a plane
Owning an airplane is a fair way to go if you plan on using it lots. If you fly it enough it usually does work out cheaper than renting when you include the fact that you can sell it when your done. I second most of what has been said already... If basic training, time building, and move on is the p...

Re: Can we fly for fun during the Covid19
Around here non-essential travel between communities is a no-no and non-essential travellers coming into the territory are being turned away, but to the best of my knowledge flying for fun in and out of your home airport has nothing at all specifically saying you can't. Just this week I was talking ...

Re: Question regarding, manifests, airlines and regulations. Boarded a plane, fell asleep and missed my stop
Most certainly not "standard practice" at Air North. I've been on multiple Air North flights where we took a delay because the head count didn't match the paperwork so the crew had to stop and figure out why.

Re: Apprentice ame logbook
Hi Unless things have drastically changed recently the time and the log book are two different things, and you will need to meet the minimum requirements of both before you can get an AME license. Time: You need a given amount of time working experience, if I recall correctly it's typically measured...

Re: Is Air North reliable?
Yes Air North is reliable. Often there are delays, but rarely more than an hour, and on flights with a beverage service alcoholic options are $5/each but the first round is often free if the flight is more than half hour late. Operating older aircraft in a tough climate things do occasionally go mec...

Re: Advice on route across Northern Canada in late July
Dawson City has customs and avgas. Nice little airport and a super neat area to visit as a tourist. Airport is about 18 km from town proper with no real regular transport though so you'll have to arrange for transport to town if needed, most hotels have a shuttle option if you are a registered guest...

Re: Woman brings emotional support SQUIRREL on flight.
I find gentle "pet" type animals very relaxing, and I admit, that during a multi month stay in hospital, when Rocky, the support dog was brought in for a visit, I was delighted! It was truly a relaxing experience. But, if you would like to travel on a commercial flight, come prepared to fit in amon...

Re: Woman brings emotional support SQUIRREL on flight.
And what was emotionally supporting the squirrel? I'm not a animal expert by any stretch of the imagination but I'm fairly confident that any squirrel I've come across if you captured it and took it for an airplane ride with 120 other strangers the poor thing would probably be scared s***less the en...

Re: First Air 737-200
Nolinor and Air North have some? Air North still has one 737-200, a gravel kitted combi. It occasionally makes an appearance on the scheds during the winter months, but pretty rarely as all of the airports Air North takes 737s to on a regular scheduled service are paved and therefore the fleet of -...

Re: Trying to get a AME apprentice job but is really hard
Do you have any other aviation experience? If not it might help to take some ramp work on the side or something while you look. The airline I work for most of guys and girls (myself included) in maintenance started with throwing bags, cleaning seats or manning the cargo office before moving up into ...

Re: What do you drive to work?
Living up north my whole life, here is what most locals around here would say... Pretty much any vehicle that you would consider reliable will probably work. As long as it's got a decent heater and at least a little bit of ground clearance, you can make it work. Things you will need though: - Drive ...

Re: Things to keep in mind as an apprentice?
Good thread, good advice. Try to avoid getting roped into the black cloud negativity clique. That’s a losing game. If you borrow a tool, for God’s sake bring it back and bring it back in as good or better condition than you received it in. Broke it? It happens. Own up to it and make arrangements to...
