Re: What amount of money would bring you to a reserve to fly
To each his own. Those jobs are out there though. Speaking of school plays I am on my way to a Christmas concert in 20 min. I just get a kick out of the two flying job mindsets. People who fly for a living love it, and people who don't think the job sucks. It's just a job, probably a little more exc...

Re: What amount of money would bring you to a reserve to fly
The reason I got out of flying is because the salaries have been stagnant if not declined over the last twenty years. The future of aviation in my eyes isn't very bright. I wish I had listened to all of old crusty pilots when I was younger that said to "get a good job that pays well with decent tim...

Re: Texting and Flying??
Not that any of them have ever tried, but if I catch a copilot texting in flight, he or she will be stopping before the device in question goes out the storm window. If you got time for that crap, you've got time to pull out a map, get busy on the journey log or go aft and roll up Herc. straps. May...

Re: Water Rudders - Up or Down?
Mabe we shouldn't wear seat belts so when we come to a dock with strong currents or wind or other aircraft parked there we won't forget to take the belt off and lose precious time getting out on the float. Who cares up down or whatever, I can not recall there ever being an issue whether I lef...

Re: What amount of money would bring you to a reserve to fly
Yes you are and thats OK. Not everyone can be a bush pilot, but someone has to keep the reserve supplied with booze, weed, and dirty bird. Also you city folks get to see what First Nations are really like. I believe that all bleeding heart Canadians should do a tour in a secluded reserve, tha...

Re: Water Rudders - Up or Down?
I usually park overnight with the rudders up, and use control locks. In the otter I fly the clutch disengages rudders when up. I don't recall ever having a problem taxing out with rudders up. However most of the time the docks are near shore in shallower water and I don't want to risk the rudders be...

Manitoba is private with nurses on payroll. Not quite...Lifeflight is a Provincial Government division, with pilots and nurses on payroll. Doctors are on call if the patient needs them. That is for the most critical patients. The private turboprop operators, Fast Air, Perimeter etc., have nurses on...

Re: IFR Rating
IMHO, an IFR is a waste of time unless you are trying to get an FO spot on a light twin. If you are going with the bush flying route save the IFR for a few years down the road, you will more than likely have time in the winter to accomplish this. Besides you'll need the $10,000 you would spend on an...

Re: Best Aircraft Type for Bird Dogging?
I would like to try a Cheyenne II, flew them a bit years ago and they performed very well. Actually out performed the 200 up to about 14000 feet. Fuel would be the only concern but you have something like four and a half hours. Down low at reduced power settings would be something you would have to ...

Re: Single Pilot King Air 200
I used to get single pilot authority on the 200 during my rides. Basically the examiner would incapacitate the FO for a portion of the flight test and sign me off single pilot. For medevac's we would fly two crew, and I could fly single pilot on charters and what not. But I do believe you must eithe...

Re: Since we determined the best bear gun.......
I currently use a 180 grain Nosler Partition in all my 30cal guns. Great bullet, costs more than most however. I don't do near as much coastal flying now days so the old 06 has been oiled and is in the safe. I picked up a little skeleton 22 single shot a few years ago, only weighs about two pounds a...

Where do you draw the line when it comes to flying over gross Brewhouse? I draw the line at max gross. However there are many situations I have run into where max gross is to much eg. esker work, small lake on floats and ski's or in a skimmer. After rereading I see I am off topic. Sorry for the ran...

As far as I know you now need 1000tt to fly single pilot IFR in 703 ops. Private flying I would assume you could buy yourself a 310 or something and load up your family for a vacation SPIFR with as little as 250 hours or so.

That is done, and usually by lower time pilots. It is interesting that the more difficult flying is usually done by the least experienced pilots.[/quote] It is interesting that at 1000 hours you can go out with 9 people on board single pilot IFR. I am thankfull that when I was starting out I was ab...

Re: Since we determined the best bear gun.......
Personally, I think taking potshots at a predator that isn't acting threatening, as some sort of a "pre-emptive strike" is highly unethical and could end up opening up a big can of worms with the ENR types, especially if you wound or kill a polar bear. You could end up in a lot of really hot water....

Remington also sell a round called an Accelerator. Its a sleaved 22 cal. bullet; in a 06 casing, great for ptarmingan, partridge etc. to keep the belly full. Can a guy still get those?
