From the Guardian

" Then searches for missing planes won't have to resemble the hunt for Amelia Earhart."

I was just thinking this could be the Amelia Earhart story for this century....

Re: Belgian plane crash involving parachutists leaves 11 peo

I know back in my skydiving days many years ago I saw many videos of Porters in a dive, beating the freefallers down from altitude. Always wondered about the stress cycles on those wings, as I heard many boasts of more cycles due to the ability of getting the jumpship down quickly - which implies i...

Re: Float Aircraft down near Puslinch Lake, ON Oct 25 2012

Mr. Hawkins was completing a float rating. The accident flight was to be his last one prior to qualifying. If this statement is true, then Mr. Hawkins had no business carrying a passenger. If Mr. Kuijer, who as stated was an experienced flight instructor, he would have known that....... Therefore i...

Air China fire video

I don't know the date of this but it just crossed my desk, very sad ending of an aircraft Air China OK you leave the nut off a leading edge flap roller. When the flap retracts the bolt falls into the track rail and is pushed back and punctures the fuel tank. In flight no problem, but when you park t...

Funny story. I was going to take a Citabria flying a couple years ago. I hadn't flown a Citabria since I was a teen. My dad happened to be on the field and when I told him I was just going to hop in and go he convinced me to fly with a local guy who owns a Citabria (I didn't know him well at the ti...

Re: Small planes for Big people?

Perhaps tandem seating might work better for you. That way you aren't overlapping. So something like a Bellanca Citabria or Scout. they're tail wheel so that brings other hurdles for your training and I don't remember them being particularily roomy but I flew the mighty 150 and had some bigger stud...

A quick check of Google will give you all of the V numbers, there is a difference between the two you inquired about....simply VNE Never exceed speed. VNO Maximum structural cruising speed or maximum speed for normal operations. I used to get that stuff from "The Ground Up" do they still use it in t...

The Bell P-39 peaked my interest from the internal list. I'm not sure about the external displace. Except I would be pretty cool flying that Fleet Model 80 Canuck and giving rides in it. My two cents. I can't speak about Airacobras but i did train on two different Fleet Canuck 80's and soloed CF-DE...

I propose no seats at all and a subway car type of interior where we all stand and hang onto straps, much more efficient :)

Meanwhile "back at the ranch" we have two threads (one a pissing contest) going on about "flying being easy"

I've concluded it's the men not the machines.....
