Seneca Crash at CYPQ

On Feb 3rd, "the airport manager at Peterborough, ON (CYPQ) reported a disabled aircraft on the runway and issued a NOTAM closing CYPQ runways. On a subsequent telephone call opening the runways, it was learned that disabled the aircraft, a Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology Cessna 172S (...

There is no requirement to make a call .... if you're on radar, the controller can see that you're descending.

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

This has to be the stupidest fu.kin thread ever to have been seen on the internet. I disagree. I think Seneca has some serious systemic problems in how they are running their program. Most of the posts make what in my opinion are valid points on why this "accident" is anything but. In addition I wo...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

I started out flying gliders, entirely at uncontrolled aerodromes, so never once did I get 'last minute winds'.... That's a pretty weak argument. Whatever happened to the precautionary landing? Low overflight to check the winds on arrival, and look at the condition of the field? When I trained, that...

Re: AVIATION CROSSROADS (Seneca vs Centennial)

Don't go to Seneca. The University ticket is highly overrated. The flight training is sub-par. And who knows what they're going to do with students when they make the move from CYKZ. I can assure you that they don't care about the students. When my class was going through, any of our concerns fell o...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

Seneca has done an excellent job of removing flight training from their program. For instance, after an accident involving crosswinds about a decade ago, they put restrictions on the max xwinds a pilot is allowed to fly in. This creates a pilot who is inexperienced in xwinds. Then, Seneca hires thos...

Re: Non RVSM in RVSM airspace

Dave, I would advise you to not ask for it if you're not RVSM compliant. I've never filled one out, but my understanding is that if a Non-RVSM compliant aircraft asks for an RVSM altitude without meeting the requirements that Dees posted, that there's a form we're obligated to fill out. I don't know...

What it sounds like you have is a general anxiety disorder, or a panic disorder. Believe it or not, what you have is not an unusual problem. And in most cases, highly curable. Good news. And you do have options, without having to leave aviation. Myth: Firstly, telling your CAME that you have anxiety...

Family disputed Air Canada account Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for Air Canada, said in an email to CBC News that Air Canada had "immediately" sent the broken chair out for repairs. "We also supplied a manual wheelchair and later in the evening an electric wheelchair for his use in the interim. "...

C'mon.... you're only getting part of the story... ACA took this kids wheelchair apart for shipping, and then was unable to put it back together again on the other side. And wouldn't tell the family how long they were going to be without it. Poor kid was in NY for a charity fundraiser to raise money...

Re: ATC separation notification to pilots

In radar airspace, we pass traffic to any aircraft likely to 'merge' with another, and within a thousand feet. I'll also pass traffic if our traffic warning system starts making noise because I've got one airplane climbing into another (but cleared to level 1000' above or below).... WJA is a great e...
