Re: Lion Air 737 MAX 8 Crashes in Indoesia

Lion Air is no longer banned from the EU since 2016. But that still doesnt change the fact they have a crappy maintenance record and crappy safety record. How do you destroy an airplane that is fresh out of the box? Can't find them here.... https://ec.europa.eu/transport/modes/air/safety/air-ban/se...

Re hull insurance....if you have borrowed money from a financial institution to buy the plane, they'll most likely insist you have hull insurance.

Re: Helicopter down in the East River NYC

That's a worthwhile summary report. There is repeated mention of the harness, a non aviation product, and the cutter, intended as a means of exiting that harness quickly. I assert that it is exceptionally optimistic to think that an average, non practiced person can cut themselves out of a harness ...

Re: Twin Otter Beta Use in Flight

Flight-safety trains with lawyers in mind. Twin Otters can do a helluva lot more than Flight-safety says they can!!! Ah, it is true! However, Flight Safety, as well as every other professional training organization I know of, trains the safe and legally complaint operation of aircraft. That's what ...

Re: Twin Otter Beta Use in Flight

not many who understand the term 'beta'.....except GH Or perhaps a chance that you don't. It's a long debated topic, but my stance is that there are different meanings depending on what you're talking about. Beta range of the power lever is any position below flight idle. Beta range of the propelle...

Re: Twin Otter Beta Use in Flight

There is no need to select beta in flight for that approach with that 2100 foot runway in a Twin Otter. To need to do so it just poor approach planning and speed control. You are ALREADY IN beta range on approach as soon as you control propeller RPM with the power levers, as opposed to the propelle...

Re: Twin Otter Beta Use in Flight

It's been years, but.....as I recall on the Twin Otter, 'beta range' is when the propeller rpm is controlled by the power levers, not the propeller levers (a blade angle of less than 17 degrees). With power levers idle, blade angle won't go less than 11 degrees unless you twist the grips. This disab...
