I was assuming that it was a case of “guest sick” not coming out clearly with “sick” sounding like “six”.

Re: Approved List of Medications
No idea if this is correct or not but, since you mentioned the Air Cadet angle this MIGHT be the reason. The Air Cadet operations also have a bit of a foot in the door with military aviation which has similar, but potentially different, regulations and guidance material. This is taken from an out of...

Re: IATRA validity 2.0
Individual Type Ratings don't expire so you wouldn't get the same specific Type Rating issued a second time. While each Type Rating is issued specific to an aircraft type, they are all technically called a "two crew rating" so the standard is simply referencing the Type Ratings by their general term...

Re: Montair Info Updated-2017
I see Montair is pusing their "IATPL" integrated course on social media now. I still dont' see what writing the exams at 250 hours will gain you. Are they frozen or do you still have to hit 1500 hours in 2 years from writing? I was not away TC had a "frozen ATPL" option? If the exams are written as...

Re: If your IFR rating lapses.
My IFR expired about 5 years ago and at that time if didn't renew your IFR within 2 years you lost your written exams. The way I read the new regs the rules have changed. If I decide in the future to give aviation another run do I only have to renew my medical and pcc ride to be current again? Than...

Re: Looking for a freelancer for Class 4
It is a spin certified 140, and no you don't need one for a class 4 flight test. No issues there :) If it's an initial Instructor Rating flight test then you do indeed need to provide an aircraft certified for spins. (At least according to the Flight Test Guide and 421.69 (4). Whether or not the ex...

Re: A320 Level-D sim, YVR
Actually, I've been on the line in South America on the very same plane for just over a year now. Was wondering if there is an a sim in YVR in order to get my TR on my Canadian license as well, since i'll be there in August. I'd only need a session and a check-ride. Anyway, anyone have the info? CA...

Re: newly expired pilot license
I assume that you mean that your blue Aviation Document Booklet has expired. If that's the case, you'll have to submit an application for a new booklet using this form . To do that you'll need a new passport photo. Send it in to TC and wait a few months and a new booklet will arrive in the mail. Dep...

Re: While in Controlled Airspace
In the interest of splitting hairs, the reference to GASA is outdated. I'm assuming that it was the politically correct crowd that prompted the change but the GASA was renamed the AMA -- Area Minimum Altitude -- several years ago. The concept didn't change but the terminology was updated.

Re: SCDA Approaches
You only add 50' if you're doing an SCDA on one engine, otherwise T.C has given a let to dip below 50' assuming you execute the missed at DH. Do you have a reference for this? I'm looking at the PPT TC put together, and it also seems to indicate an "allowed" dip, but I can't find any reference for ...

Re: Format of IFR approach plates?
I won't wade into the legalities of which formats are allowed per TC since I don't have any references to cite. As far as the, "It's illegal to print the NavCanada pubs" is concerned, here's what NavCanada has to say. TechWatch Bulletin -- See page 3 (emphasis is mine). Available for download are al...

Re: Medical Certificate
If there was a change from a Category 3 to a Category 1 medical that should have generated a new sticker to add to the Aviation Document booklet. (Without a sticker, there is no evidence that you met the Category 1 standards -- the CAME can't approve an upgrade, that has to come from the docs at TC....

I haven't seen anything official yet but I'm expecting an update to the AIC to appear on the 22nd. I've flipped through the new CAPs that come into effect on the 22nd and no changes to the format that was expected have been made. I'm assuming that NavCanada is running behind schedule and hasn't comp...

Hey Jack, If you read above my reply you see a bunch of great references from the CAR's that validates the exam being frozen. I do not. The only thing I see you mentioned is CAR 421.40. I read it and see nothing about "freezing" exams. Can you post more details? CAR 421.40 isn't the one that covers...

Re: Question for the aviation regulation wizards
Assuming that the person has been flying the aircraft recently, getting the Type Rating is easy. You cited 421.40 for the Type Rating requirements, which is correct but there are also "Credits for Foreign Applicants" at the end. In the case of a Type Rating there is the following: (b) Pilot Proficie...

Re: Confused, is this duty day legal?
I'll second what jschnurr said about the need for 3 days off. That being said, you didn't have three days off (your message said two days) before your eight-day pairing so you can't use the 3/17 scheme. Consequently you cannot work any more day until you receive three consecutive days free from duty...

Worst case, if you're still not convinced you can always sign up for General Aviation On-Line Services . Through that service you can view your licence info. If you click on any of your licences on that site it will give you details about the various ratings but it also includes a "Medical Expiry" f...
