Re: AME job alternatives..?

Heli Ian is one the old aerosexuals who still can't think outside the "for the passion" aviation mindset that's infected maintenance in Canada for so long. He see's aviation as the only path if you went to school for it. To the OP - find something, almost anything that keeps you from having to earn...

Re: Duty time over 17 hours

The attitude from Air Ambulance operators that the rules do not apply to them is dangerous. This theme is extended with their exemption from the new impending duty regulations for 703 operators. What good is "saving lives" when you crash the plane due to fatigue? That's not how it works. The exempt...

Re: C-182 crashes near Needle Peak

Were they sightseeing first? It looks like they tried to get into hope but got blocked and tried for Merritt. Well, the weather didn't really seem conducive to sightseeing. I assume they were just trying to get through/around the clouds. Looks like 55kt wind from the west at 10,000ft, based on thei...

Re: Getting maintenance done in the USA on a commercial aircraft

If a 703 operator’s bottom line is that narrow and is worried about cost of manual revisions they shouldn’t be registered for air taxi work, or in aviation altogether. I was under the impression the OP was trying to find a way to make a new operation as cheaply as possible. It's not as simple as wr...

Re: AME Helicopter Lifestyle..?

It has been great for me.

Traveled the world, met interesting people, went to places most people only look at in pictures and got paid well for it. Never had to worry about unemployment.

Downsides are: mosquitos, inclement weather and being away from home for extended periods.

Re: AME job alternatives..?

Nothing when you have no experience and no license. What are you looking for here?

There is no magic job that pays 100k a year starting out with absolutely no skills. Definitely shouldn't get into aviation if you're that confused about how to work and make money.

Seems like a lot of effort, just the manual writing alone would be painful and costly.

Since it's a federal mandate, the rules are the same across the industry. There is no problem if you have a legitimate exemption.

Re: Converting a Private Piston Twin into a Commercial 703 Twin

Hello! What about commercial turboprop aircraft? Do they have a hard limit on overhauls? Thanks! Yes they do. It's calculated by airtime, flight/power cycles or calendar time depending on the engine. Most, if not all turbines contain life limited parts which also must be removed from service at the...

Ya, I totally understand, there's a private guy a row over from us that likes to do runups right in the middle of the taxiway, sometimes for 20-30 minutes like it's his private apron.

What do you expect, it's an entry level job. You paid for your CPL and now you need a job to gain experience. How much should we pay a zero timer with no skills? It's like this everywhere now with most industries, everyone wants top dollar for nothing, entitled whiners. That's not how the world act...

Re: K Max down

I’m sure there’s an obvious answer, but I can’t see it. How would you get a type rating in a single seat helicopter like a K-max? A jump seat attached to either side for maintenance and training flights. Just kidding, that didn't really pan out, nobody wanted to ride external. Here is the most comp...

It was a commercial banner towing operation.

There has been no indication about the occupants of the aircraft and who they were.

Re: AME shortage?

Ya, there's a shortage that started more than 10 years ago. You can't just switch to being an auto mechanic though. You'd have to go to school and earn your ticket just the same. Unlicensed mechanics don't get paid that well either but after a few years you could be making as much as an ame. Just fi...

I had contact with the police in December 2017/January 2018 for mental health checks and at another point in 2018 when I had a physical health problem and they were on scene. Will this affect my ability to get a RAIC in the future? I have never been arrested and have no criminal charges. Want to kn...
