Further to this... I will be moving to Vancouver next week and haven't had a chance to check of the flight schools. Does anyone ahve anything good or bad to say about the training schools at Pitt Meadows (That will be the closest strip to me)

thanks

I'm just starting out but so far as I've filled pages I'm scanning them into my PC. Once you do this you could just hold them on your HD or upload to secure redundant storage etc... Not really very much work and it makes your log book only worth the paper its printed on if ya lose it.

I know one of the guys that was on the beaver. He's an inlaw. The immediate family hasn't heard anything yet either.

nah he just took some pics. Its a one instructor one AC (172) deal at YCD. He's pretty good not quite crazy enough to dump water on me, Although if some of the old timers at the flying club downstairs had caught wind of my solo there is no telling what they could have done ;)

first solo

Well I did my first solo yesterday! That was a rush. Only one complaint.... Damn ultralight without a trasponder didn't radio ahead they were in the zone and joined the circuit on final for landing before even announcing himself. I didn't see him until then due to a large hill. he ended up in the mi...

Thanks for the advice guys.... I've been around this forum long enough to know walking into a flying job with low time is basically like winning the 6/49 right now.... But at the same time at those rates if I can get a rating on a 180 and build cheap time it looks worth it. I won't be available to g...

outback aviation

I'm sure most of you have noticed the link above for outback aviation's float training. Does anyone know the guys running the outfit? Is the AC a death trap?

Thx

Not too sure how I managed to post twice but in my defense i was only on my fist cup of coffee  Hey I got a freakin' pilot's license, why do I need a driver's license? Damn the man. Damn him many times over. Your argument looks good on paper but doesn't stand up to much. last i checked driving...

Save the gas for us

Hopefully they get the cars moved over to hydrogen and save the gas for us !

but seriously though i'd have to agree 100%. The only question is when we run out and how many wars are started due to a need for cheap oil....(hmm what does that remind me of  )

Thanks for the info

It won't be worth even the 25 +travel expense this time around because I just got my class one but good to know going forward. I can't belive there isn't some simple fee to just extend it to both. Gonna cost me $157 bucks for a medical I just had done. I'm only 24 and fairly certain things haven't g...

Well TC has managed to piss me off too

I have a valid class one medical right now and need a marine medical as well. I called to ask if they could just transfer the damn thing for me and after the worman on the other end put me on hold ten times asking various people she came back and said no. She said it was because they are totally dif...

Here's another thought

One must be especially careful with unruly passengers when you are the only pilot onboard. If some crazy redneck takes a shot and manages to knock you out everyone is in real trouble.

bush pilot

You may want to look at moving up north somewhere and going the bush pilot route. If you can manage to get on full time doing dock work and whatever else you could get by.

150/152 prices

What ballapark should I expect to be in pricewise for a mid 70's 150/152 airplane? obvioulsy something with not too many bells and whistles as I'm mostly concerned with building hours.

insurance for low timers

Just one more question about insurance... I assume the costs go up the less time you have... I'm thinking at about 50-60 hours I want to buy a plane... Will they even insure me and at what phenominal cost?

Also Cat Driver can you PM me some info on your plane? Canadian dollars right? ;)

Thanks,

Viable to purchase plane for build up time?

I was curious how viable it would be to buy a little cessna 150/152 for build up time. The cheapest I can find to rent them in my area is about 90 bucks and hour wet after taxes. Or possibly go in with someone in a similar situation. Correct me if I'm wrong but a 150 burns about 30 liters an hour in...

Things are going to get better.

I've noticed a fair bit of pessimism regarding landing jobs as a pilot especially for low timers. Just thought I’d post this link to the gov job futures website. Things are looking up! Keep flying!

Good headset for training

I'm going to be starting flight training very soon and would like to have my own headset. I need something VERY affordable that works. I plan to buy a better headset once I'm actually flying for comp and I can keep the cheap one for guests etc. Any suggestions would be great espaecially from experie...
