Re: WJ encore and the regionals
Year 4 $78.80 $75,648 You have to be kidding. I make this flying a piston twin. What kind of travel benefits do you have flying that piston twin? How about long and short term disability? Profit share? Happy crew and managers who support you in everyday line ops? Want to earn a few more $? Pick-up ...

Re: Night Medevacs
Really at the end of the day, the pilot has 1 goal....To get from point A to B....safely. It's none of our concern to know of any other information. All we need to know is weights of all px's, and a dispatch number. Go and check weather, evaluate your crews condition, and if any factor in the grand...

Re: First Job to Second
PIC is king, whether it be single or multi. Agreed. PIC is golden; you will advance quicker, you'll learn more about yourself, and grow in your skill set. Plus, you'll likely earn more money. Lots happening in Alberta. With 1000 hours turbine you could probably slide easily into a Navajo PIC job/ri...

Re: Night Medevacs
Your job as a medivac pilot is to determine if you can safely depart, shoot the approach, come home, and if necessary procede to your alternate, taking into account weather, darkness, equipment, and your own fitness to fly. Once you have made a decision to launch, the rest should be pretty cut and ...

Re: Project: Parkland Airport - West of Edmonton
I'm all for supporting general and commercial aviation in Edmonton outside of what's happening in YEG. Having flown out of CYXD for years as a MEDEVAC pilot and working for a charter operator, wouldn't the money be better spent on improving existing airports in the area such as Villeneuve, etc. to s...

I've never seen them even operating out of YYC and now they are hiring more F/O's?KP If you are out around Apron 5 in YYC you will see them somewhat regularly. Of course, you'll also see Canadian North, Enerjet, and of course Cariboo. But they are doing some flying! (sorry, not sure on working cond...

call sign "PARROT"
I recently had an opportunity to tour a mobile ATC set-up at a military airfield. The controller was showing us his radar screen and I was glancing at the flights in the area and came across "PARROT" at FL 600. Any military types here who can answer as to what type of aircraft that might be? U 2? Sw...

Re: Job advice for 1000hr+ flight instructor
I wouldn't discount your flight instructor experience. Many before you have gone the instructing route and jumped into a twin-turbine or jet afterwards (myself included) and have gone on to build a solid career. Many of them are now at the airlines. Just because some employers don't value the instru...

Re: Alberta operations
That being said, Alberta unfortuntely doesn't have as large of a need for air operators since everything here moves by road, especially for the oil patch. Its not a particularly aviation friendly province. Going to have to disagree with you on this point. There are several YYC and YEG based operato...

Re: king air to air canada
Hey guys, Just looking for some input. I have heard of a couple guys going straight to air canada (and similar level airlines) from a 703 king air operation. Is this something that is likely to continue? any thoughts on which is a better and/or quicker route? While the traditional route to the airl...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds
Here's an idea: before you sign a bond, ask for a breakdown for the costs and see if they are reasonable. I know Simuflite in Dallas charges $1000/hour for a BE30 sim. So, 5 hours training, plus 1 hour ride = $6000US, plus air and hotel should all be south of $10,000 for a PPC. Exactly. So why does...

Also be very weary of the weather and winds in that location; I've been through there with each wind sock pointing straight out in opposite directions .
