Re: Rick Mercer gives Air Canada kudos on new jobs.
I just don't get corporate thinking. How does one afford to live in a major urban centre and survive on those wages? How does a company expect to attract good workers willing to work on those wages? How does our GOV expect to keep it's tax base up if they keep chipping away at the middle class... W...

Re: Rick Mercer gives Air Canada kudos on new jobs.
The solution is, these are no longer career jobs and the corporations are happy with a high turn over. I completely agree that we are seeing the erosion of the middle class, but, what constitutes "middle class?" You are so correct! No longer career jobs! Where is the line that an unskilled labor jo...

Re: Rick Mercer gives Air Canada kudos on new jobs.
Sorry, 3 decades of witnessing the perfomance of the IAM on the ramp has pushed me over the edge. The sooner AC outsources the ramp, the better. Westjet doesn't put up with the lost luggage and waiting for the .... slow moving ..... bad attitude ..... rampies that AC does. It will eventually be out...

Re: Rick Mercer gives Air Canada kudos on new jobs.
it is all about extremes. Historically AC has paid outrageous wages to work on the ramp, in return they have got substandard service from the IAM workers. Blows holes in the "you get what you pay for" theories. The problem has been the IAM, they rob from the skilled workers (the AME's) who are gros...

Do you really believe that? It's easy to say that after the fact.....but a plan as large and as ambitious as that? No way....it was going to be done with or without employee assent!!

Excellent response Doug! No quotes needed on that one!! But when I do break up quotes, I just open up another window to the same page you are viewing in your browser and go that page (side/side) and copy/paste. Always remember to add this
to the end and this to the front
X =...

Have a look at the starting wages for flight attendants ....... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/air-canada-to-hire-hundreds-for-new-discount-airline/article2124489/ Keep reading until you get to the part about what a 10 year one makes... yeah, what a comparison. And how over 2600 pilots will benefit from opening the top end of their careers to pursue a full pension, a scant 30 years after the CHRT opened the bottom end. And how the Defined Benefit Pension will thrive under career extensions for all 2900 pilots. That’s right, everybody. Once more. Everybody...

And here we go, round, round and round again! And you will continue to go around and around for eternity because of labors insisting on solving a problem which cannot be solved. Trying to set pay based on what is fair and just, based on who's job is most important, blah blah blah. You can't, Karl M...

Well DrBoeing, that certainly aroused your concern? Why is that? Subbing of anything will have nil-zero effect on myself. But obviously you've vented the thought that you yearn for the Rampies to be displaced! Fact is that the Mtce. branch has become a dishevelled mess full of malcontent and disarr...

Re: ACPA Implodes !
How much money do you think airlines would save if they'd stop turning simple jobs into high paying careers? (ie. Ramp, Agents, Flight Attendants) When any of those people earn as much as the guys operating the aircraft or fix the aircraft .. then I think there is a problem. Of all the "labour" pos...

Cleaner blaster, stock keepers etc etc, crappy pay, I have no idea where you got this high pay idea, a cleaner/blaster starts at 12/hr as does the stock keeper. Re: Why are AME's underpaid?
A large part of the problem at airlines is the bargaining unit, more often than not the AME's are in a unit with general labour type employees such as baggage loaders, and the unions tend to try to protect the general labour people at the expense of the skilled group. This is something that must ch...

Fanblade, for a new or junior Air Canada employee as you previously stated, you seem very knowledgeable of the airline industry. Incredibly strong business sense and direction. Almost like a 20 year CPA or CA veteran. It begs to ask, however...where did you come from and why are you here now?

If CR wants to make this a real milestone contract, make it clear. Like it or not, pilots and mechanics are the two groups required to make this Company run. The rest are expendable. It takes a pilot a month to get through the interview process, an FA gets online in three weeks, yet who takes conce...

Until now, Porter has been the only commercial airline operating out of the airport Porter makes a go of it, and suddenly Jazz is all ME TOO ME TOO.
