Re: Reference Checks

Yes they only check the references after the interview. Right now, guys don't do their medical until a couple months before their hiring. I know guys who are still in the original pool and their interview date was over 3 years ago so keep in mind that it could take a while for the entire process

Re: Aviation Degree vs. University Degree

With Air Canada, an aviation diploma can replace a degree in terms of points. I was hired in 2012 with 2500 hours and an aviation diploma only. I don't think that doing a degree is bad, especially if you are doing it at the same time as your flight lessons. What I don't recommend is 'loosing' 3 or 4...

Re: Air Canada Pool

In the September course, the 4 guys from the outside 20% were from the pool. From course to course, they sometimes take Sky and Georgian people in the 20% but it always varies.

Re: Air Canada Pool

Anyone care to guess when they will open the application window again? It's been some time since I was able to update my resume. The last update we got in June was estimating a post for job vacancies in Spring/Summer of 2016 or sooner. My guess is that they will wait until the pool is almost empty ...

Re: Air Canada Pool

For those who are interested, here is what I know:
-There will be a course on March 16th and another one on March 30th.
-They are aiming for 20 guys on the 16th within which 4 should be from the pool
-They called for medical people I know who interviewed in March 2013
That's all I know, good luck!

Re: Some Questions

Great thread! I have a question along the lines of career progression for a junior FO. I understand that new hires ususally bid FO on EMJ (or RP on B767, B777 etc). Assuming a new hire bids FO EMJ, what kind of career progression could be expected, and what are the pros and cons of each? From what ...

Re: Some Questions

On my GS back in feb 2012 they provided "accomodations" but no perdiems. For what its worth, In the last equipment bid I saw maybe 6 open spots on the EMJ FO in Montreal. They started giving perdiems with the new contract in August 2012 There are also 2 spots on the 320 which brings the total to 8 ...

Re: Some Questions

I'll answer your questions thinking about mainline as we don't know exactly what the Low Cost conditions will be. 1- Mainline year 1 salary is currently 50.27 per hour. As a new hire, you often start on reserve and the minimum monthly guaranteed hours change every month but the absolute minimum is 6...

Re: Air Canada Pool

The new hires are frozen on their position for 4 years so unless you bid something else and the company needs you there, it could take 4 years.

Re: stat holidays

I'm in a company where the medevac operation works on a 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off schedule. The employer tries to give us extra days off through the year but when it's impossible, they just accumulate them and pay everything at the end of the year. So we get 1.5 extra day paid for each stat day we ...

Emergency landing on highway 391

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after an aircraft made an emergency landing Friday morning on Highway 391. RCMP say the Kelsey Dam-bound aircraft’s right engine failed when it landed approximately 22 km northwest of Thompson at about 10:50 a.m. All five passengers on board, along wi...
