Re: Are Pilot wages actually that low?
The Captain of a WB aircraft doing an overseas flight is legally responsible for ~300+ lives, a $200 million asset as well as any cargo on board. They are responsible for managing a crew of 14 to 16 employees on the far side of the planet. If the pilots screw up in a way that results in a hull loss,...

Re: Boeing Systemic Problems Continue
Long ago my wife said the airplane will not fly again, and I disagreed, I'm starting to think my wife may have been correct and I'll explain why... If the return to service is going to require additional training, the common type certificate is likely in jeopardy. If the Max is no longer considered ...

Re: Bargaining idea
You guys are hilarious! As a former Jazz, now AC guy I can tell you this...Jazz is still viewed as being too expensive. If guys like FL280 decide that they should have everything that the generations before had, that will lead you to one place...Jazz will cease to exist. AC is looking at bringing as...

I think the bigger issue here that everyone is overlooking is that the requlator has completely abandoned it's duties with regards to Keystone. The current environment in Canada allows these operators to endanger the travelling public and exploit young pilots that are just trying to get a foothold. ...

Re: Globe & Mail on the future of Pilots
All of this talk about gps and computers is irrelevant. Until they develop a system that will communicate with drone airliners that is 100% hacker proof and not going to fail when the solar flair hits us, there will always be a pilot on board. Even then, will the system run on Windows? Gives new mea...

Re: Flying an RV-9A
Worst thing that can happen in a RV9 is a wheel barrow landing. Make sure you keep the nose up in the flare. The strut the nose wheel is mounted on is not strong enough to support the aircraft if the nose toucches first. Other than that, the aircraft is highly forgiving. Have fun!

Re: Are the Emb new hires worried?
All the AC unions need to unite and somehow convince the shareholders that it is in their best interest not to let management continue down this destructive path. This has been tried on more than one occasion. ACPA seems to always respectfully decline the invitation to a Labour Coalition. Seems the...

Re: Good, bad and just plain silly news for 2012
It can't be a bad thing to come here at the moment, as I think Jazz is going to become very transient for the next 8 years. I think a lot of guys with around 5 years in just dug up their resumes and are looking for something new. For me, I can't wait and see what 8 years down the road will bring, I'...

Re: AC low cost carrier closer to becoming a reality
"Isn't all that bad" ?? Maybe today....What about 2014? The pension holiday ends and AC owes 2.something BILLION to the pension. Where does that money come from? AC leases everything they have, there is nothing left to sell. They have had a loss for every quarter since what...1937? I sense a giant o...

Re: New TA reached!
Very Naive Rudder, Jazz was going to be legislated back to work if we ended up on strike. Our MEC was informed of that by the Minister of Labour herself before we had even given strike notice. The official reason: It would be an undue hardship on the people of Canada during summer vacation. I'm not ...

BCFlyer We were told after the fact that the MEC was made aware that the MPs didn't go home. A big part of the reason for the Minister of Labours statements in the house was to advise the MPs that they would be sticking around. The other gauling part, was that the Minister informed the MEC that if w...

Re: Age Discrimination?
I certainly don't mean for this to become another thread against allowing pilots over the age of 60 to continue to work. As I work for Jazz where 65 is the accepted age, I really don't have a problem with it. I'm simply curious about the precedent, and whether the government would issue a blanket la...

Age Discrimination?
Watching all the friction going on with the Flypast60 issue at AC from the sidelines has raised a question in my mind. Isn't age based discrimination inherent in society anyway? How can the government state that it is illegal to discriminate based on age without far reaching consequences? Examples: ...

You would not be required to cross an active picket line. If the company can provide you with a safe and legal way to go around a picket line, then you would be required to go to work.

No disrespect intended. But I'd like to see a 25 yr 767 captain come over to Jazz for a day and fly eight legs. Followed by a 12 hour overnight and another 6 legs the next day. No disrespect intended of course.

Re: Air Canada parking 155 aircraft!!
Hi Jaques I interviewed with AC in 2006. At that time AC and Jazz were in the GS talks. If an applicant was accepted at AC from Jazz, AC was given full access to that employees' records at Jazz (without prior permission from the applicant). We were both wholly owned subsidiaries of ACE. I had done t...

Tony By saying the following: cat3. I suspect that by the time LH buys AC, Jazz will be a downsized, insignificant player. . It doesn't really appear the you believe AC and Jazz need each other. More to the point you are invalidating the work of 1500 pilots that work along side you (albeit, not wort...
