Wanted: Block time/share CYTZ

Looking for block time (or possibly buying into share) on an aircraft based at CYTZ. Type doesn't matter as long as there's 4+ seats. Will do checkout as required by owner. Not looking to build time - just looking for something to get the occasional $100 hamburger, and maybe 1 or 2 weekends trips. I...

Re: LASIK

I got PRK done at Bochner about 7 months ago. Really happy, the docs there have had a few people go through that needed the TC paperwork filled out and they had no problems. Took me about 45 days to get my medical back, less if you're doing LASIK and not PRK. Would recommend Bochner - not cheap but...

Re: LASIK anyone?

I would want to find out about long term complications. Some employers will not hire candidates who have had laser refractive surgery. That said, intra ocular lens implants are sometimes done for younger people with serious myopia. IOLs are common for treatment of cataracts once people hit their si...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

Tower now responsible for initial departure separation (either 1, 3 or 4 miles) for IFR aircraft Does that mean no more "waiting for radar release"? I really wish that were the case. Long story short, terminal validates the IFR and depending on what heading the aircraft is released on, and wake tur...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

I also dislike the SID readback which now has to include altitude. As far as I'm concerned, SID readback should be the sid itself and transponder code, everything else is on the procedure unless obviously there is an ATC amendment. Interesting series of flights today ... We flew out of YUL, and got...

YYJ area Float Rating

Never been to the west coast. Off to YYJ at the end of March for a couple days and looking to do the float rating. Been looking at VFC and Pacific Seaplanes. Would prefer to stay around YYJ area, but I have no problem travelling around Van Island for good training. Any comments on those operators? A...

Re: Overshoots at Toronto Pearson

Cossack or MAC:

Can you expand on the visual departure seperation now used (from an ATC perspective). What advantages does this provide? Obviously it cannot supersede wake turbulence seperation right? When is terminal responsible to establish 3/1000? Will you do it for same SID departures? Thanks.

Re: PA 27????

Search ICAO doc 8643. We have this printed in the cab to use as a reference. If you search the online database it lists a Piper Aztec as PA27, so this isn't a "navcan in its infinite wisdom" thing. I think expecting someone to know they never rolled an Aztec off the line is a little much. If you say...

Re: Medium behind a heavy on take off wake seperation?

Time based wake seperation is measured nose wheel up (rotation) to nose wheel up, not take off clearance to take off clearance. I will start aircraft before the time expires because I know the time will expire by the time the aircraft rotates. Another reason may be that at larger airports, the tower...

Re: Using hawks to chase away birds

I know Billy Bishop doesn't use it. They don't use just hawks.. They also have an American bald eagle (named Ivan) As well as falcons and a dog. They're down at the island in the spring and fall. We had the falcon services down last week after the snow melted and left huge pools of water in the inf...

Hi there,,,,,,,I am looking for general information. Is it possible after being ct'd from the ATC course that you can be offered a re-course in the future? Yes. I know of at least 8 that have got offered either a new course or a new unit. Now that I think of it, I don't think I know anyone that's b...

Re: ATC Handoff Questions (Tower->Terminal->Tower)

At one moment in time the YYJ Control Tower personnel could be dealing with all of the following - A C 172 checking in at Somenos lake in bound for landing - A C 172 checking in at Mount Doug in bound for circuits - A Turbo Otter off of Victoria harbour requesting the overhead transit to Vancouver ...

Re: ATC Handoff Questions (Tower->Terminal->Tower)

It's straightforward to pull the data on aircraft movements out of CANSIM table 401-0007. For the entirety of 2015, Victoria Intl. had 139,286 movements. Toronto City Centre Billy Bishop had 122,242. In 2015, CYTZ had more movements than CYYJ in August, October and November. Data for any part of 20...

Re: ATC Handoff Questions (Tower->Terminal->Tower)

Unrelated question but why in BC -- yes must be different of course -- is there an inner / outer tower system. Seems needlessly complicated. Here in Onteribble pretty simple. Terminal, tower, including rather busy places like YTZ, YKZ Ect. Correct? Those two example airports aren't even close to as...

I'm pretty sure if the RCAF wanted to land they could do whatever they want lol I was told a story about a CF18 doing a touch and go at the island before I got there. My job is to separate aircraft, if you want to come bring a jet in, you'll get a landing clearance, Are you required to report such an occurrence to the Port Authority? No, I'm not the airport police. Ports Toronto has access to our movement tracking system or at least gets some sort of reports so ...

What would happen if Porter decided to pull a fast one, and sub in a C-series for one of its regular flights from the island? Fines? Slaps on wrist? Blue faces from island residents as they hold their breaths? How long would it take for anyone to notice? I've read the fines are 10,000 for landing a...

Thank you for the reply! How do callsigns work? I'm assuming it just comes with experience that flight "MPE 732" is "Empress 732" and so on. Do you only see the MPE (or is it 5T?) and have to know what to call them? Reason I ask is not so much for the ACA and WS flights, more for the weird ad-hoc m...

Thank you for the answer. How does it work when trying to view an aircraft's flight plan for example? Are you able to click on that aircraft and view information about it's route?
