Re: Should have asked for the option...

RedAndWhiteBaron, you appear to have misread my post. I was referring to Driving Comet's advice to provide the reason for your decision while you are executing it. I didn't say to provide a reason while you're executing a difficult RTO, I said FLY YOUR AIRPLANE FIRST (quote my full paragraph next t...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Well today I committed my first deliberate violation. After doing some dual airwork in relatively light winds and a nearly perfectly executed engine failure simulation, my instructor sent me out on my own, maybe 7 or 8 miles from the airport, and back for a few circuits. While I was out on my own, ...

Unit managers aren't even allowed into the building. You're not going to get a tour any time soon.

Re: Nav Canada to Hike Service Fees by 30%

Maybe the NavCanada's controller union should represent pilots as well, since they've done so well to match international pay rates. The controllers are weathering this crisis fairly well, that's great for them. Now what can we pilots do to better our collective situation. I too have been rather di...

Re: Visual Approach Vs. Canceling IFR ??

Tower controllers cannot take control of IFR aircraft that are not intending to land. Therefore IFR separation must be maintained the whole time , from both other arrivals and IFR departures. Its all about who has responsibility of control of the aircraft, the IFR unit or the tower. Not necessarily...

Re: Visual Approach Vs. Canceling IFR ??

A simulated RNAV is an RNAV approach conducted without an IFR clearance in controlled airspace. You say it so the VFR traffic or MF or tower know you’ll be coming via an RNAV profile with a 10-14 mile final perhaps with a T fix. Glad you find it hilarious. Do you find simulated engine failures hila...

Re: Visual Approach Vs. Canceling IFR ??

So if you give that 172 a visual approach clearance at 5 miles final, do you still need to wait until it lands before you release an IFR aircraft for departure off of the same runway? If the 172 is landing full stop and weather is decent, Tower can take control of it at the control zone boundary. T...

Re: Visual Approach Vs. Canceling IFR ??

Ok Maybe I didn’t ask this correctly. What separation needs to be applied in the cases at controlled airports, and at uncontrolled airports that lie within controlled airspace. 2 IFR aircraft on visual approaches, 1 IFR waiting for departure 1 IFR aircraft on a visual (Full Stop) 1 IFR aircraft on ...

Wanted: Block time/share CYTZ

Looking for block time (or possibly buying into share) on an aircraft based at CYTZ. Type doesn't matter as long as there's 4+ seats. Will do checkout as required by owner. Not looking to build time - just looking for something to get the occasional $100 hamburger, and maybe 1 or 2 weekends trips. I...

Re: LASIK

I got PRK done at Bochner about 7 months ago. Really happy, the docs there have had a few people go through that needed the TC paperwork filled out and they had no problems. Took me about 45 days to get my medical back, less if you're doing LASIK and not PRK. Would recommend Bochner - not cheap but...

Re: LASIK anyone?

I would want to find out about long term complications. Some employers will not hire candidates who have had laser refractive surgery. That said, intra ocular lens implants are sometimes done for younger people with serious myopia. IOLs are common for treatment of cataracts once people hit their si...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

Tower now responsible for initial departure separation (either 1, 3 or 4 miles) for IFR aircraft Does that mean no more "waiting for radar release"? I really wish that were the case. Long story short, terminal validates the IFR and depending on what heading the aircraft is released on, and wake tur...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

I also dislike the SID readback which now has to include altitude. As far as I'm concerned, SID readback should be the sid itself and transponder code, everything else is on the procedure unless obviously there is an ATC amendment. Interesting series of flights today ... We flew out of YUL, and got...

YYJ area Float Rating

Never been to the west coast. Off to YYJ at the end of March for a couple days and looking to do the float rating. Been looking at VFC and Pacific Seaplanes. Would prefer to stay around YYJ area, but I have no problem travelling around Van Island for good training. Any comments on those operators? A...

Re: Overshoots at Toronto Pearson

Cossack or MAC:

Can you expand on the visual departure seperation now used (from an ATC perspective). What advantages does this provide? Obviously it cannot supersede wake turbulence seperation right? When is terminal responsible to establish 3/1000? Will you do it for same SID departures? Thanks.

Re: PA 27????

Search ICAO doc 8643. We have this printed in the cab to use as a reference. If you search the online database it lists a Piper Aztec as PA27, so this isn't a "navcan in its infinite wisdom" thing. I think expecting someone to know they never rolled an Aztec off the line is a little much. If you say...
