Re: Carson Air
Sorry buddy but don't expect much constructive advice about that company on the boards. I think the only competition is finding anyone with anything close to 500 Multi to leave their job for an $18k bag-run.

Re: Calgary IFR Renewal for $599?
Good place, renewed mine there not long back. Budget for more than $600 though, by the time you've done a couple of briefs and a few hours figuring out the Sim, you're past a grand.

Another incident for the club...
Not long after landing this morning at YBW saw one of CFC's 172s off the runway. Once again, strong gusty wind (15kt Xwind at time of landing), and a solo student. Thankfully the student wasn't hurt this time. No CADOR as of yet...

Check out Millennium Aviation. Good aircraft, good instructors (heck, I used to be one), and Cec is a legend. I would personally not recommend the "other one" based on things i've seen and heard.

Wow, just found this thread and have to agree 100% with the above warnings. Great CFI, good aircraft, but there's a reason JS was ran out of town and is down to 2 planes and such a quiet school. The extra $50 an hour JS charges for planes is a reflection on where his priorities lie. If you're doing ...

Shiny do you have a link for that? That's an important point i'd like to pass onShiny Side Up wrote: I'm willing to bet many instructors don't realise that the AROWILL acronym often used to teach what must be on board often only applies to aircraft under the part 7, and then if its specified in the Ops manual.

Re: Ocean Crossing in a Single Engine Plane
What to do in the event of engine failure from Goose Bay To Greenland? What do you do a night cross-country with one of your future students when the engine quits? All about calculated risks...some people are willing to take them, others feel no need to. Don't think i'd fancy shipping anything old ...

Have you considered doing it on a sim? The Air Academy in Calgary has one and specializes in renewals. Much cheaper than renting a twin!

CADOR question
Just wondering if anyone can illuminate on what "auto-over" is? WJA 502, a WestJet B737-700, was overshot by the Tower controller when on approach to Runway 34 at Calgary due to JZA 434 in position on Runway 34 and GLR 7246 landing on Runway 28 in front. Weather was below auto-over limits; 36015G20k...

Aux - awesome comments and couldn't agree more. I am paid by the flight/ground hour but still make sure every day that the aircraft are secure, hangered/tied down, and everything is hunky dory when I leave. Now would I come in, for free, to check on things? No way, I can barely afford the gas when I...

Call the Calgary office, they have the new flight test guides. They even highlight in the new guide what has changed which is useful. I got given them but i'm sure they can email them accross if they're not on the website yet.

Re: In Flight Engine Shutdown
Spoke to a TC inspector a few days back and it's all true. New flight test guides are already available. Slow flight is no longer at 5kts above stall speed, it's pretty much right on the stall. Also interesting to note,a spin is no longer required on the commercial...just an incipient recovery. Not ...

You need the IATRA done before even working the ramp at some companies (CMA for example). May as well get it done for $30 just for the sake of it!

Re: IATRA... RECENT... Anyone write one?
Easiest exam so far, I thought anyway. Just work through the study guide on the TC website and make sure you have a tick for each topic (there's not many of them). Although didn't have a clue about calculating CP/PNR formula!

Who says "hour-counters" can't be good instructors? Aside from the lucky few getting to fly the twin, I imagine the vast majority of instructors would leave for that coveted "real-world" job in a heartbeat. I am bewildered that despite the horrendous pay and conditions we are still such a proud, pro...

The last time I checked TC couldn't give me a definition for cross-country, so it's left up to your discretion...don't know how they could dispute CC hours in which case. Although I think that topic has been discussed ad nauseum!

Re: Multi Rating
Agree totally with BPF, if you can find a guy with plenty of multi hours you'll learn far more. Especially if they have experience in real IFR and ice (assuming you're doing the instrument rating next). Although I did mine in 6 hours with a fairly new multi instructor and had no problems...the blind...

Probably gonna show around 15k on this year's T4 for instructing "full-time". And all that with no chance of multi-time. I believe you start on 18k at Carson, and obviously the flying is much more valuable than buzzing around in the circuit staring at the Hobbs. Heck, I could even keep my 2nd job wi...

I'd work there in a heartbeat. Good schedule, same if not better pay than instructing, and lots of multi-turbine time in the logbook.
